Gaming Loyalty Programs - earning base points in harrahs system
Harrahs has added (a non-gambling) method of earning base points in their system, for every $5 spent in one of their casinos, you earn one base point--which counts for tier status: seven stars, diamond etc.
I was pondering over the following scenario: a large company is holding a convention, say 500 employees, for 3 days at $100/night = $150,000, equivalent to 30,000 base points, which the ceo would have credited to his account, and become diamond without doing any gambling.:p

I'd be willing to bet (haha) that Hotel Sales has language preventing this in the convention contracts. Come to think of it, I know the VP Convention Sales for Atlantic City - I'll call his office first chance I get.

I don't see why they wouldn't want the CEO in the OP's example to have Diamond Status. The CEO is bring the hotel 150 guests & granting Diamond Status costs the casino very little. Diamond status gets you into the lounges, head of the taxi line, free parking, that's about it.
I don't think Diamond Status automatically triggers comps or offers -- they track your gambling profile separately.
Moreover, such a CEO would likely have some wealth, or at least a high income, so they would probably take the risk of giving him some benefits (maybe, even a free room) hoping that he would become a loyal and lucrative customer.
