How can I get miles for renting cars outside of airports and not in junction with a flight? I always rent cars in New York City for weekends, and was never able to get any FF.

It seems many rental companies don't require that your rental be in conjunction with a flight any longer. xyzzy Oct 1, 03, 8:46 pm For some companies whether you get miles depends on the location. I recently tried to get Hilton points for an Avis rental in downtown Boston. It turns out that the location I rented from doesn't give any points in any program. ejmelton Oct 1, 03, 9:59 pm When I rent from Hertz "Local Edition" I get one half Southwest rapid rewards without a flight. j379pa Oct 1, 03, 10:41 pm I've never had a problem getting points for local rentals. The budget site has a bit of a bug & demands flight info, but I just make up something ludicrous. JP Centurion Oct 2, 03, 3:31 am Depending on your rate code at Hertz you can get miles from local off airport sites. Last time I rented we could not find a code that would allow HP/AWA miles but found one that worked for AA without paying a higher price. I made the reservatioin first and then had the counter person try different FF# until one stuck in the system. I recieved lots of miles for a 60 day rental! ClipperCFX Oct 2, 03, 11:06 am I too used to rent cars in New York City often. Dollar would give me miles. Avis, thorugh which I rented the most often because my company had a good rate, would not. The prices of rental cars in Manhattan is absurd. $80 per day for a compact is average. ClipperCFX pinniped Oct 2, 03, 4:23 pm Avis and Budget are two that I have had problems with, miles-wise. Hertz is a no-brainer: the ZE1 points or Marriott Rewards points always post on the off-airport rentals. Knock on wood. |
