On Monday I looked for some flights to book with AP$ and found flights that were timed perfectly for what I wanted. However, yesterday when I checked, the flights I wanted had gone up significantly in price so I booked flights with AP$ for flights that were cheaper but not so good times. Bit put out but my own fault for dawdling around.

So today I look on NZ website and see the original flights I wanted are back down to their original cheaper price. I'm thinking, do I want to pay $50 to change or should I just deal with it? I call up NZ anyway to see if I am super nice to the consultant whether they will change me on my original flights I wanted (same days different times) and waive the change fee out of the goodness of their hearts. At this point I'm telling myself that there is no chance and fair enough because it was my fault for not booking when I had the chance.

Imagine my surprise when the consultant said she would be happy to cancel my original booking, refund my AP$ and I would need to make a new booking with them! Furthermore, I am only a Jade member and these were the cheapest of Smart Saver fares! However, the consultant told me that I could only do this within 24 hours of original booking and only once.

Has anyone else had this happened? I was really surprised when they could have just told me to shove off and pay the change fee if I wanted the new flights so bad.

Sometimes you get lucky and fees are waived. YMMV.

I thought that NZ introduced a lowest fare guarantee. It was something like what NZ_Flyer experienced but not quite the same.
