With an 11 pm arrival into TPE, is it feasible to use public transportation to get to the Sheraton Taipei (which is near the Shantao temple MRT station)?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Asia - Public bus from TPE to Sheraton Taipei?View Full Version : Public bus from TPE to Sheraton Taipei? Thanks. christep Oct 6, 08, 1:28 am Yes - the last departure is at 1am, according to this Taipei government site (http://www.taipeibus.taipei.gov.tw/english/map/airportbus1.jpg). But no according to this Taipei Government site (http://www.taoyuanairport.gov.tw/english/transportation/taipei_e.jsp)! However, the second site (which I have a suspicion is more accurate) lists buses going to Taipei Railway Station from the airport up until 00:50. Taipei Railway Sation is less than 5 minutes walk from the Sheraton. taipeipeter Oct 6, 08, 4:12 pm Yes, "public transportation" meaning airport-city buses. NT$100 to the Taipei train station, unless there's been a price rise. The bus will let you off (final stop) just to the west of the station (on the north side of ZhongXiao West Rd). If you're very tired or have a lot of luggage, just take a taxi to the Sheraton. If you can walk, walk toward the station along ZhongXiao (ie, going east--you'll see the station all right), go over the big pedestrian bridge to get to the south side of ZhongXiao. Keep walking eastward about 2 blocks. Sheraton is on the right. In theory you can do this with escalators through the Underground system, but it's harder to keep your sense of direction that way. Bowgie Oct 7, 08, 5:58 pm I think the previous two replies to you are correct. You might also print out a map of central Taipei and note both the locations of the Sheraton and the sprawling underground railroad station to take with you. During your stay, you will probably find the Taipei subway/elevated train system quite handy. If the map prints with Chinese characters, that will be all the better because the actual street name signs will be in Chinese, not pinyan (phonetic English). Taking the taxi all the way in from TPE airport is expensive because of the distance. 2400 NT, I think. I would not try to exhaust yourself finding and walking to the Sheraton after you get dropped off in central Taipei. If you can walk it, then fine! A short taxi ride would be quite doable. Have something written to show your driver because he may not understand "Sheraton". I would not be alarmed about safety in being out at night in Taipei. Seemed safe enough to me. You buy your bus ticket near one of the exits leaving the airport. The bus will be right outside. To return to the airport, ask the hotel where the airport bus leaves from and show you on map. It's about a block away from the RR station and not the same spot where you will be dropped off. (Driver is likely to drop off at the RR station.) christep Oct 7, 08, 9:01 pm All taxi drivers in Taipei know the Sheraton as "Lai-Lai fan dian" ("Lai-Lai hotel" - its former name). npei Oct 9, 08, 10:42 pm Yes, "public transportation" meaning airport-city buses. Bus fare to Taipei Train Stn is 125NT now. I would not recommend you walk ~20 minutes to Sheraton Lai Lai Hotel (with luggage at past 12 midnight (by the time bus arrive in Taipei Train Stn) by yourself. There are plenty of taxis waiting for bus passengers. christep Oct 9, 08, 11:22 pm I would not recommend you walk ~20 minutes to Sheraton Lai Lai Hotel (with luggage at past 12 midnight (by the time bus arrive in Taipei Train Stn) by yourself.I wouldn't either since you would obviously be lost if it takes 20 minutes. Taipei Railway Station is no more than 600m from the Lai-Lai Sheraton. ionlyflyupfront Oct 12, 08, 5:10 am EVA have express bus that goes to the main hotels. JUst go to the information desk when you come out of bagage reclaim. It depends which terminal you arrive into. If it is T2 you will have less chance of catching the bus as they hang on for as long as possible at T1 to fill it up. I seen many people stuck waiting for a bus when it sails past full. THe taxi guys are good at the aiprort and if you tell them you want to share a taxi they will in a minute or two have you teamed up with someone else and ytou can share the cost. THe Sheraton will organise a car for you for less than a taxi as well so just ask them to confirm the price and let them know your flight and they will bill it to you myperks Apr 12, 09, 4:17 pm When traveling from CKS Airport to the Sheraton Taipei (or to any Taipei hotels in general), I find it the easiest to catch the first Bus to Taipei operated by a number of operators (Evergree, GoBus, KuoKwang, FreeGo, etc) for NT100 to NT135 per person and then catch a taxi once you are in the general area of hotel for max NT100 per cab. Otherwise, you will be waiting and waiting for the correct bus. The GoBus from TPE actually will stop right at the Sheraton Taipei but it takes between 60-90 minutes because the bus takes a "scenic" route. AirBus goes to LaiLai Sheraton (NT$85) but it makes a few stops in Tao-Yuan city ebfore going on to Taipei city, runs every 10-15 min to 1am. (but make request to bus drive to stop at hotel or they will not stop and pass the hotel to the train station which is the last stop) |
