Hi everyone.

What is the earliest anyone can check in baggage at the NZ LAX ticket counter?

In a few weeks, I will be flying in from MCI and connecting to AKL at LAX. The problem is that I'm arriving LAX at around noon, and the catching NZ 1 at 9PM. My domestic segment is on a separate PNR than the international segment, which means that I probably can't check my baggage through from MCI, and will have to haul the bags from UA across LAX over to Air New Zealand for check in.

Thanks for your help.

They generally open at around 1.30 so you won't have much of a wait.

Are you flying J or Y? If Y and no *G status the queues for the Y can be quite long even at that time of the day - pax checking on for the LHR flight.

Maybe you might want to plan to have lunch at a Land side restaurant at Lax.

UA will check your bags through onto NZ, then show NZ your bag claim receipt when you check in with NZ.

Encounters (in the theme building between the terminals) is overpriced but kinda cool, and has a great view of the airport. Certainly better than anything airside in T2 for ambience. There are some OK landside dining options in TBIT.

A thread a while back did mention that NZ sells daypasses to the LAX lounge if you are not *G, but this is subject to capacity constraints which are often reached.

Happy travels

Long queues on all lines at that time of day. The problem is that NZ tells pax to check in 3+ hours before departure, but opens check in for LAX-LHR only 1 1/2 hours before departure.

I'm not sure if the evening flights will be open for local check-in that early (ex-AKL they only open 4 hours prior to departure).

Easiest will be if UA can through check your bags (show the onward ticket at check-in, then all you will need is a BP from NZ.

Transfer between T6/7/8 and T2 at LAX is easy - either turn left and walk around the "U" (upper level preferred), or catch the *A bus (lower level), or take the shortcut by encounter on the lower level.
