Hello there,

Has anyone stayed at the Renaissance Barcelona? If so, how was the hotel and how was the executive lounge? Also, is this property fairly convenient to the tourist sights in the city?

In addition, I am trying to book holidays in Europe at Marriott properties. We are Gold soon to be Plat members and would like ones that have an executive lounge. Any suggestions for good properties? (besides locations below)
TIA.

So far, I've been to the following Europe hotels:

1. Brussels Marriott -- Excellent hotel / location / great service. Excellent executive lounge with free booze and free internet access. The food in the lounge was the best I've had so far.

2. Marriott Paris - Champs Elyssees - Excellent hotel and location, but no lounge. They did offer us free buffet breakfast in their restaurant however. Walking distance to the metro and short walk to the Arch. Hop-on, Hof-off bus tour p/up right outside hotel.

3. Prague Marriott - Excellent hotel w/in walking distance to the city. Nice 2-level executive lounge w/internet access on 2 computer terminals. Great service.

4. Renaissance Cologne - Very nice hotel w/nice executive lounge. Excellent service.

5. Renaissance Dusseldorf - Older property that needs renovation. No lounge. However, they provided buffet breakfast in restaurant, 50% off dinner, and everything in mini-bar was free! However, due to the condition of the hotel, I wouldn't recommend it.

6. Heidelberg Marriott - Older property but very nicely kept. Excellent service. Nice lounge w/an outdoor balcony overlooking the river.

7. Budapest Marriott Apartments - We had a beautiful 2-bedroom apartment which was great w/the ample space for our family of 4. Although the service here is minimal, we had access to the Budapest Marriott executive lounge which had a stunning view of the Danube and Royal Palace.

8. Renaissance Salzburg - Nice property. 30 minute brisk walk into town. Otherwise, a short drive into town or take the bus in. No Lounge. TERRIBLE service. Was so bad, we considered checking out early. Would not recommend this hotel.

9. Windsor Marriott - this hotel was just okay. Not bad. We got a great deal which included a 2-day pass to Legoland w/free breakfast. The lounge does not have service on the weekends, however, you can use your key to get soft-drinks and minimal snacks from the lounge even when there is no attendant there. We were there one day when the lounge was open, and it was not bad.

I spent two nights at th BCN Ren.
No upgrade to the exec wing for this gold-despite the hotel being pretty empty:mad:
Room was pretty small-and nothing special.
Bathroom was the devils own work-shower flooded the bathroom every time we showered.Reallllllly cheap fixtures.
The C'lounge is pretty nice.Good spread of food and free booze.

BR AWARE that this property is far away from anything of interest-strictly there to serve the airport and the business parks nearby. There are a few shuttles(free)which will take you into town. But you will be at their schedule.

If you want to be in Barcelona do not stay at this property.

Welcome to FT :)

I would add The Marriott in Colonge where the lounge (with two walk-out balcony's) was very very nice and the service was excellent.

The Lisbon Marriott isn't too bad either except the location is a bit far out. (Next to the zoo) It has a fantastic lounge with a balcony which is great for morning breakfasts. They have a nice outdoor pool and the hotel is walking distance to the metro.

Regarding Renaissance BCN, they have a shuttle which takes you to the city centre. If you plan to spend the day sightseeing then taking the shuttle in the AM and coming back early evening shouldn't be a problem. While in the city you might want t buy some water, snacks etc.. especially if you don't have Lounge access. Last time I was in BCN they wanted 8EUR for a bottle of water

I have been given an upgrade both weeks I've stayed. Executive lounge is good - free alchohol which is unusual. If platinum you can go straight to the concierge to check in.

However, as bigguyinpasadena says, it's basically next to the airport, so if you want to visit Barcelona, I would stay in one of the hotels in the centre.
