Travel with Children - YQ for Lapchild?

So I've used some DL miles to go to Europe next summer with wife and two kids. Actually one of the kids is under two and will be a lapchild. Went to ITA site to see the fare for the lapchild and it came out close to $600...ouch! The fees for three award tickets are less than that combined. Read up on the fare and it looks like infants have to pay standard 10%, but also the full YQ. Since YQ is really just part of the fare it seems like 10% should be applied to that as well.
Is there any way to get around the yq?
BTW flight originates in Mexico on AM

I don't know anyway around this.
Delta's webpage says:
International Taxes & Fees—For infants under the age of two and held in the adult's lap, the cost is usually about 10% of the adult fare plus any international taxes and surcharges, which can be significant.
I guess so. It's almost worth purchasing them their own seat; at least you would not have to hold them for such a long trip, and they could earn miles!

I don't think that a child under two can actually accrue miles?

Also why don't airlines make YQ the majority of an international fare. That way they can essentially make lap kids pay nearly full fare

They can on Delta if you purchase them a seat and they are a member of SkyMiles.
