TalkBoard Topics - Proposal: Airport review

Well, I have looked around at FT and I cant find it. But, I could be blind and have not seen it.
I went to London this weekend, but got a strange ticket to London City Airport instead of the usual Heathrow.
Wow, London City was a nice, but small Airport. Way much better than Heathrow in my opinion (sequrity check 2 minutes, short distance frot the train, and leather sofas in the waiting hall).
When I have traveled to London, I can depart from Gatwick, Stanstead, London City or Heatrow (or even Luton (!)).
Same thing in for example New York, or even my small hometown Stockholm (three international airports).
I am looking for a simple guide/review with pros and cons for each airport in the city. Could be easily graded 1-5 (one being the lowest score) for a couple of things, like
* Time to travel to city centre
* Cost of taxi/train to city centre
* Security check time
* Lounge access
* Whatever
Had I known what I learned this sunday, I would never have traveled out of Heatrow (hell on earth) if I could avoid it by going via London City
Best regards
Ola

A bit ironic you list London since the UK/Ireland has a sticky that provides in great details all the travel around London options visavis the various airports, train stations, busses, minicabs. That sticky is an excellent resource and has existed for quite some time.
Having said that, they did it individually. Given how many airports there are in the world, who are you suggesting compile that information? Just curious.
Cheers.

Sticky link (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=755299) - index of all FAQ collection of questions & answers.
The BA forum (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=446)is likely to have the answers re. any airport info and you will have fun reading it. :)
The Help link (top right) of the FT page has this Airport lookup (http://www.flyertalk.com/acl/), which is handy, so you can then use FT search to find topics where FTers use LHR, LGW, LCY names for the respective airports.
I suspect you will soon find this in the UK/Ireland forum, anyway.
Good luck with your (further) exploration of FT.

Isn't there a similar idea about airport forum just the other day?
PROPOSAL: Add Forum category titled "Airports" (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=864393) (started on September 9, 2008)
Maybe these two threads can be merged?

party_boy started a thread and a wiki last year but it doesn't seem to have taken off. See this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=754050&highlight=elm)

Hi again,
Well, not standing ovations for my idea :-)
The BA forum is likely to have the answers re. any airport info and you will have fun reading it.
I know, and I have found a thread about for example Amsterdam in the KLM forum. And that is really why I did start this thread. It is not logic that you must go to some ("random") airline company forum to find info about an airport, when that airport is served by maybe hundreds of airlines. Ok, to find the AMS thread, one first have to find out who is the major player at that airport... not good.
Enlish is not my first language, I have troubles explaining really what I mean, but ok, where should a post about for example Bromma airport in Stockholm be posted? Under SAS? Under Brussels Airlines? Under the scandinavian section - but if so, why is AMS under KLM and London under BA?

I think I'd put a post about Bromma in Scandinavia, just as I'd put a post about LCY in the UK & Ireland section.
Where an airline has a hub (AMS) then it's likely you'll get knowledgeable people about the airport in the airline forum, but not always. If you always fly BA, you might have no idea about T2 or T3 at LHR. But really, airport posts should go into the relevant destination forum, unless it's a question specific to an airline (for example, a question about the VS lounges at LHR should go into VS).
