.....this one is totally out of left field here, but I can't think of anywhere else to put it.
Would it be *worthwhile* for someone like IATA or ICAO to register an upper level domain, to enable airlines/airports to register domain names, IN ADDITION TO the current web addresses?
For example, Qantas has the IATA code of QF, the ICAO code of QFA - so in addition to the various websites which already exist, www.qf.iata and www.qfa.icao would also work. Likewise, Sydney Airport (IATA:SYD and ICAO:YSSY) would have www.syd.iata and www.yssy.icao (and so on).
This would strike me as an advantage in that I know a lot of IATA and ICAO codes, but I don't know the website URL's for a lot of airlines and airports.
If I was looking at an obscure itinerary my travel manager handed me, saying "This is what you are doing next week!" and I wanted to conduct some basic research, this would make it a lot easier to get the information that I require.
Any thoughts on this? I know that this will show up at IATA and ICAO (I know how web-spiders work) and they might take notice, but would be good to get some additional feedback.
