Has anyone ever seen the Cirque du Soleil shows in Las Vegas? There's one starting next month starring Criss Angel (the illusionist). It's called Believe. Has anyone heard about this show?

The Mod and I must have been typing at the same time. :-) kingalien Sep 24, 08, 2:44 pm Here is some general info that may help. http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=802141 Cybershaz Sep 24, 08, 4:45 pm I have seen O and Ka. They are both amazing. Ka is more storytelling where O is more acrobatic. For the full effect, I recommend getting a front seat ('wet seat') at O for the full experience. I saw some of the characters from the Criss Angel Cirque show on tv (they were on So You Think You Can Dance) and it looks quite creepy (in a good way). Cirque is generally a pretty safe bet. The only show I've heard less than positive reviews of is Zumanity. dddc Sep 24, 08, 5:18 pm I saw Mystere, O and Ka last year and each was spectacular in its own way. Mystere is what I would say a traditional Cirque show, but with the benefit of a permanent stage. O is water based and I would go for as close to the stage as you can, but maybe not the wet seats if you've got your good clothes on! KA haunts me still with it's music. It's the first "story" based Cirque show. Try and get seats mid way back in the first section. I tried to book online, but kept getting bad seats, so I called the reservations number and got a fantastic assistant who had seen all the shows and was able to recommend the best seats available and to juggle the dates to get the better seats. Book early. I paid $160 for my seats to O and heard one guy on the way in to the show talking to his mate saying he'd paid some agency $400 that day. I went to Vegas with the direct intention of seeing the Cirque shows and I'm glad I did. I was so busy going to shows and sightseeing that the only time I got to gamble was at the airport leaving! Hopefully I will be going back soon to see them again! csgoalie Sep 24, 08, 11:38 pm Seen em all. In vegas, I'd rate them: O Love Ka Mystere Zumanity (I'd actually rate it below last if I could) I am sure the Chris Angel show will be great. And that comes from someone who doesn't like Chris Angel. DJ_Iceman Sep 25, 08, 12:42 am What makes Zumanity so bad? The only Cirque show I've seen in Vegas was Mystere, which fit the descriptions I've seen here perfectly--a solidly enjoyable, traditional Cirque experience. My wife and I were thinking about doing Zumanity next for something a little different, but now I'm curious... Some comments on Zumanity. (http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=686539&highlight=zumanity) rljan Sep 25, 08, 9:04 am We have seen all of the Cirque shows in Las Vegas. The 2 shows that we have seen more than once are Mystere and LeReve. LeReve is not "Cirque du Soleil", it is Dragone (the producer of Mystere and O). All are very good (I'd pass on Zumanity if I had it to do over). For any Cirque show, I recommend getting seats that are in the middle of the theater. Being up front is not the best seating for these shows. The possible exception is LeReve, which is in the round. Planes21 Sep 25, 08, 11:20 am I've watched some clips of Mystere on youtube and it looks very interesting. I'd also love to see Love. Criss Angel has posted some videos on YouTube too on the Believe show and what you can expect to see in the show. Here's the link. www.youtube.com/cirquelasvegas The dancers and the costumes are really neat, as with all Cirque shows. I love how detailed the costumes are and just to think they do these shows night after night. Hard work! DJ_Iceman Sep 26, 08, 1:00 am Some comments on Zumanity. (http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=686539&highlight=zumanity) Thanks for the link, but there's nothing specific in there. Just a few people saying they liked a lot of Vegas shows but didn't like Zumanity. What I'm looking for is more along the lines of what people said about Danny Gans--specific reasons they didn't care for his show. That way I can better judge for myself whether or not those things would affect my own enjoyment. PTravel Sep 26, 08, 2:21 am We've seen Mystere, "O", Zumanity and Ka. We loved them all, but "O" and Ka were real standouts. phillygold Sep 30, 08, 8:10 am We have seen Love, Le Reve, O and Mystere. I know that most folks have said that Le Reve is not as good as the Cirque shows, but I disagree. I actually enjoyed it more than the others, and much more than O (which honestly I found to be boring in spots). My order of preference Le Reve Love Mystere O At some point I will check out Ka and Zumanity... csgoalie Sep 30, 08, 3:07 pm might depend if you saw the old LeReve or the revamped one. I heard the old one sucked!!! I am also interested in seeing Wayne Brady @ Venetian. I have heard good things. May be going next week for work and may opt to catch this one before my redeye. thebat Sep 30, 08, 6:29 pm Is great! Amazing staging. Try it. dartagnan Sep 30, 08, 6:34 pm I am also interested in seeing Wayne Brady @ Venetian. I have heard good things. May be going next week for work and may opt to catch this one before my redeye. Saw him a while ago when he did a show at my university. Great show - he's a very funny improv actor, and had some non-improv bits in there as well. I'd highly recommend it unless the price is outrageous. TravelScholar Sep 30, 08, 8:50 pm I've got tickets to see a preview performance of Criss Angel's new Cirque show this Sunday, the 5th. I'll try to remember to post some remarks afterwards. I second the recommendation for Wayne Brady. I quite enjoyed that one. Le Reve is also a favourite of mine. If you can find a local to purchase your tickets, there's usually a 2 for 1 ticket deal at the Wynn box office for those with a NV license. np Sep 30, 08, 8:53 pm I was thinking about going to the Chris Angel show until I read this. It's worth a good laugh. http://www.lvrj.com/news/29875759.html csgoalie Sep 30, 08, 9:10 pm I was thinking about going to the Chris Angel show until I read this. It's worth a good laugh. http://www.lvrj.com/news/29875759.html Ouch. I realize Cirque isn't appealing to some, but it sounds like Chris Angel is the one screwing this show up....I'll wait and see before I buy tix based on this. zippyh Oct 1, 08, 10:09 am Of the Cirque or Cirque-like shows, I'd rate them Love Ka La Reve (I liked both old and new) Mystiere Zumanity O I was fighting falling asleep during O. Zumanity was okay. I was also pleasantly surprised with the Wayne Brady show. patricksw Oct 1, 08, 3:08 pm Cher gives good Vegas. I highly recommend the Cher show. Gives you a little Cirque style performing, but you get a world famous icon to boot! paulTX Oct 1, 08, 3:32 pm Thanks for the link, but there's nothing specific in there. I often look at Tripadvisor, mostly for hotel reviews but more recently for attractions etc. I did a quick google search and found this for Mystere (http://las-vegas-hotels.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g45963-d143009-Reviews-Mystere_by_Cirque_Du_Soleil-Las_Vegas_Nevada.html). I'm sure there are reviews of the other shows too but I don't have time right now to look. But now you know where you can do that yourself :D BearX220 Oct 1, 08, 3:44 pm Saw Mystere with my wife on an anniversary trip a couple of years ago and nodded off. I don't understand what the big attraction is with Cirque shows. To me they're just a bunch of people in leotards jumping around under colored spotlights to formless New Age music. I think there's an emperor-has-no-clothes aspect to Cirque, honestly... nobody wants to be the first to say there's no there there. np Oct 1, 08, 8:45 pm Any good last minute deals for Love? My wife and I are thinking about going to see this one on our next visit. 3galsontour Oct 1, 08, 8:53 pm I've heard some of these shows may be a bit much for children. Currently it looks like we are taking the kids to Ka. Any thoughts? csgoalie Oct 1, 08, 9:30 pm I've heard some of these shows may be a bit much for children. Do NOT take your kids to Zumanity, unless you want to have to answer some unusual sexuality questions. kingalien Oct 1, 08, 9:38 pm I've heard some of these shows may be a bit much for children. Currently it looks like we are taking the kids to Ka. Any thoughts? Mystere at Treasure Island would be more appropriate for children. Second would be O and then KA, not that KA is not suitable, it's just not the most suitable of the Cirque shows IMO. KA does have some flames shooting up from the stage which may scare very young children especially sitting close to the stage (and you'll feel the heat from the flames too). I haven't seen any of them other than as bits on TV but I am inclined to agree with you. Most people rave, though. Loren Pechtel Oct 1, 08, 10:46 pm Should be fine unless they are really young. Do NOT take your kids to Zumanity, unless you want to have to answer some unusual sexuality questions. The website for the show has an 18+ screen at the start. The show has topless scenes. How could you take kids there??? PTravel Oct 1, 08, 11:06 pm I've heard some of these shows may be a bit much for children. Currently it looks like we are taking the kids to Ka. Any thoughts?First of all, Zumanity is X-rated. There shouldn't be any kids there at all. Period. Ka is a great show, but how old are the kids? If they're old enough to sit there and enjoy the show like everyone else in the audience, I'm sure they'll have a wonderful time -- there are amazing sites to be seen and they'll be thrilled. Just the stagecraft alone is spectacular and beyond anything I've ever seen on the Broadway or London stages. In fact, it would fun to hear about their reactions, so I hope you'll report back. However, if they're little kids who can't keep still or quiet, don't take them. It's not fair to people who have paid $300 or more per ticket to have a show which involves a carefully designed and managed theatrical environment ruined by noisy, disinterested kids. Cirque du Soleil is theater, not a circus. duchy Oct 2, 08, 2:42 am I've heard some of these shows may be a bit much for children. Currently it looks like we are taking the kids to Ka. Any thoughts? Honestly I wouldn't take kids to any Cirque show-I'd take them to see Donny and Marie at the Flamingo instead. More fun and less posing -I'd give Cirque a 13 and up age range but not any lower. (I'm another who thinks Cirque is over-rated tho :) ) lrickets Oct 2, 08, 11:15 am I've seen Ka twice and it was a spectacular show because it has a story to it and the stage moved constantly. Nothing scary or adult oriented in the show. However, kids under 13 may not understand the story and may get bored because there is no talking. Have not seen other Cirque shows in Vegas but a friend who saw Ka and went to see O said O was a sleeper (no moving stage, just a bunch of people jumping in and out of the water and acrobatic synchros). Frankly I prefer to see Ka because it's different. Spend an hour+ to hear people sing is just so....not different. 3galsontour Oct 2, 08, 8:54 pm Don't worry. No Zumanity is in our future. Kids are old enough to sit down, relax and enjoy Ka. So Ka it is. PTravel Oct 2, 08, 11:29 pm Don't worry. No Zumanity is in our future. Kids are old enough to sit down, relax and enjoy Ka. BearX220 Oct 3, 08, 11:43 am Take your kids to see Lance Burton at the Monte Carlo and avoid the risk of boring them expensively with a Cirque show. csgoalie Oct 3, 08, 8:34 pm Ka is great. Story is complex but the staging is greAT. Another great show for kids is Blue Man Group. I saw them at the Luxor 3 yrs ago and I hear they are even better at the Venetian show. Seriously. I saw them at the Luxor 3 yrs ago and I hear they are even better at the Venetian show. Seriously.I haven't gotten to see Blue Man Group yet, though I want to. Mrs. PTravel isn't interested. And that's what distinguishes Ka from other Cirque du Soleil shows -- it does have a story. As for the staging, I've never seen anything like it anywhere, ever (and I've been in and around the theater for many decades). When we went, our tickets cost, I think, around $250 each -- Mrs. PTravel, who is much sensible about money than I am, was not particularly happy that I had spent that much. We both left the performance agreeing that we would have happily paid more! lrickets Oct 3, 08, 10:44 pm btw, Ka is discounted thru December 19. See this link http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/862610?highlight_key=y&keyword1=cirque. Enjoy! Jalinth Oct 4, 08, 10:49 am PTravel. I'll have to go to KA next time. I went to see LOVE and it also had a story line and the music was obviously based on the Liverpuddlians. LOVE was truly amazing, so you might like it as well. The new Cirque show sounds like a completely fiasco. BearX220 Oct 4, 08, 1:01 pm ...that's what distinguishes Ka from other Cirque du Soleil shows -- it does have a story... I think that's what I haven't liked about my Cirque exposure (and I haven't seen Ka) -- no story. Just people jumping around. thebat Oct 4, 08, 4:00 pm To say Ka has a story is a bit of a strech. The 'story' has as little relevance to the production as the 'plot' of an Elvis movie or the 'theme' of Mama Mia. It's just about the music and dancing. Did I tell you that I loved it?:) 3galsontour Oct 8, 08, 9:53 am We returned from Las Vegas on Sunday. Here are my thoughts on a quick two night sojourn. Ka was a delight. My kids (10 and 7) really enjoyed the show and the fabulousness (?) of the theatre. They were tired as we had just flown in from NYC through DFW and arrived just in time for the show. They had slept en route and frankly it proved to be a wonderful night. The nest evening we tried to get tickets for O but had no success. We ended up at Lance Burton and felt it was a bit off. We had been told the tickets would be great but in fact were off to the far side. It made it difficult for the kids to feel engaged with the show. He is actually a great showman but the majesty of the previous night made it tough competition. Another show that we had not considered was the whole Las Vegas extravaganza in itself. We hung out at the lazy river pool at the MGM on Saturday from around 8:15 in the morning. We had a great time with the kids using the innertubes to float around. After many spins it got to about 2:30 and the pool was full. When we went around again you started to realize that people were getting rowdier and a bit more into the party feel of things. After my husband floated into a group of young guys by accident and they responded with a "hey buddy, What are you doing" in a slightly fierce way then we realized that the family time was up and it was time to move on. I understand it is Vegas so we just figured our time was up. All in all Vegas was fun but not for any length of time. lrickets Oct 8, 08, 11:00 am To say Ka has a story is a bit of a strech. I only wish they could have sung more of the songs in their entirety. It was also a blast watching some elderly folks swaying and grooving to the music. rishiboy Oct 13, 08, 8:16 pm Saw Blue Man Group at the Venetian and the Jay Leno at the Mirage - both tickets were bought at the Tickets 4 Tonight. Got a question - how do you really know your saving money from this place ? They don't assign you a seat until you head to the box office and you might get a cheaper seat. Anyways the Jay show was a little disappointing. I guess he is better on the Tonight Show where he has a teleprompter. I also thought he talks a bit too fast but he was better when he was doing improv and started interacting with the crowd. |
