This is more for LAS locals who fly a lot. Now that the economy lot on Russell is closed, have any of you located a cheaper place to park? I know there is the remote lot that opened across from the car rental facility but it seems kind of far and the shuttles likely don't run a lot when I am getting to the airport. I have a 10 day trip coming up and can't/won't beg friends for a ride because the outgoing flight is before 7 am.

I am unaware of any off-airport parking, either and residential shuttles are nonexistent as far as I know. Also, I'm fairly risk-adverse so I won't try to park at a hotel and take a cab from there. I know people who have had their cars towed. If I have to, I'll use the remote lot which is a bargain at $5/day but would rather spend a little more and get a little closer.

Any ideas?

I just used the new economy lot, no problem with the shuttles.

You could pay double the price at $12 a day and park at the multi-level structure adhacent to the terminal. Then its just a convenient walk across the bridge. I often times use this for short weekend trips to avoid the shuttle hassles. Its convenient when I have no checked bags since I can get off the plane and walk straight to my car.

I've also used the strip casinos many times for airport parking and have never had a problem with my NV plate. I don't see how they can verify which cars are visiting the hotel and which are not since they don't require tags or issue in/out cards. Cars go in and out freely with no checkpoints or questions asked. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the hotel security bike patrol couldn't be bothered with taking an inventory of every single license plate (like the Mcarran paid lots do) and seeing how long each car stays. I've used one resort in particular many times for holiday periods and have never had a problem. Usually when something is free, you don't have to specifiy why your taking it!

(I think it's justified anyway for the exact reasons you mention.)

I don't know how security knew but I know one guy personally who had his car towed from the Stratosphere parking lot and it was legally justified. I know of 2 others also but don't recall the hotels. Maybe they mark the tires a la meter maids, I don't know. I'm sure lots of people do this, however, with no problems. I'm not going to debate the legalities of this because it is after all just parking ;). However, I just don't want to have that concern coming back at 10 pm on a Saturday night to no car.

BTW, the long term parking lot is now $14/day (it recently went up). That's why I was asking for a more economical alternative. I use it for shorter trips but $147 is quite a bit of money for just parking a car.

Thanks to LorenPechtel for the info on the econ lot. Good to know the shuttles are working OK.

A cab from home could be another option depending on how far you live from the airport. I'm in the Black Mountain area of Henderson and a cab is about $35-$40 each way. With a cab at least you would have that assurance that your car is left safe at home.

Airport park and ride at the south strip transfer terminal - gilespie and sunset. $1.25 each way on cat bus 109 = $2.50 for up to 2 weeks of parking :)

Otherwise, Advantage Rent a Car has a lot on Paradise just north of Tropicana, but I do not know what they charge per day.

Unless you're *WAY* out somewhere you can take a taxi both ways for far less than $147.

When we go visit her folks we do it by taxi as that's cheaper than leaving the car in even the economy lot.

I'm out at the Lakes so not far at all. I'll give this a shot. I'm kind of a control freak so I like getting in my car when I want to leave for the airport and not having to rely on a cab showing (or not showing) up. But if I can save $70 or so, it may be worth it.

Thanks to everyone for the information.

Yeah, I'm a couple miles south of you. Take a taxi, don't spend $147 on parking!

Alternatively, you can carpool with another FTer. Trekwars2000, DebUA1k, Sunnyhere, and others have shuttled me in the past. Perhaps one of us can give you a lift?

Remote parking at LAS is still only $5 per day + driver tips.

It’s easy to get to via I-15 or I-215, on Gillespie, right across the street from the car rental center. Seemed like a safe place. I saw security patrolling while I was waiting for the shuttle, I think they were recording lic plate numbers. Maybe I got lucky but I waited less than 5 min for the shuttle and it was a short trip to the terminal – I didn’t look at my watch but I’m sure it was less than a 10 min trip. The drop off is the lower level (one level down from baggage claim). Convenient to concourse D security if you already have your boarding pass and don’t need to check a bag. Pick-up is the same place. I only waited a few minutes for the shuttle back. The pick up isn’t clearly marked, it’s the far side. Same as the drop of so make note of that.

As for wait times, I say maybe I got lucky because I didn’t notice any other shuttles in the lot either time I was there.

I just returned from my first 21 hr / 5500 mile MR. LAS-ATL-CVG-MLK-CVG-ATL-LAS, $225 on DL. As this was only a 1 day trip I opted for airport parking.

I confess, I’m a cheapskate when it comes to airport parking. I’ll take a $5 +$2 tip taxi to the nearest hotel and then the $6.50 + $1 tip shuttle to the LAS airport rather than pay the $25 one-way taxi fare from home. And, I’d rather have my car sitting in my driveway so it’s not obvious that I’m gone. I’m lucky to have neighbors who come in several times a day – open and close curtains, turn lights on and off, turn TV’s on and off, adjust heat/AC as needed, check for obvious water leaks. Late at night when I’m the last one on the shuttle, I’ve even had the shuttle driver offer to take me right home. He gets a good tip! Depending on the time of day I also have a friend who picks me up and takes me to/from the airport and I reciprocate by doing the same for him—or lunch/dinner which I consider money better spent.

I recently rented from Advantage (thanks to the CO promotion (http://www.advantage.com/j/i/1333/LandingPage-ContinentalSkymiles5k-1009.html)). They let me park at their Paradise & Tropicana location for free. I still don't know what their regular rate is if you are not renting.

when in town (drove in from LA) for some table fun and an MR out of LAS, I usually book a room at the Double Tree for the night I return and they let the rental car be parked there for the 1-2 days Im flying around.Use their shuttle to/from the Airport. No tags no nothing

Then usually on the way back , I cancel the res out if I got an earlier flight via SBY, if I actually need the room due to very late arrival I actually stay. But I have more fingers on my hand then the # of times I actually stayed. With all Carriers cutting back I can see myself actually having to end up using the room. So total out of pocket is the tip to the shuttle driver
