TWA FFB/Aviators - Qualify by combining to different criteria

I'd like to get to AA Exec Platinum this year. But the remainder of the of my travel year is already booked. (3 flights AUS-STL and 1 flight STL-ORD)

Does anyone know if it is possible to qualify by combining two different criteria? I'll have 75% of the dollar's spent to reach TWA's highest level, and 25% of the segments or miles to reach AA's.

I had never used AA before the merger was announced and now it looks like trying them out may have prevented me from making TWA Platinum.

Current Situation TWA (Elite 1)
39 Domestic Segments
2 International Segment
$14,956.28 spent (includes taxes/fees)
100,092 Aviator miles posted (Minus hotel/car)

AAdvantage Account Status
YTD Elite Qualifying Points 12,785
YTD Elite Qualifying Miles 15,442
YTD Gold/Plat Qualifying Segments 15
(1 round trip to England)

Hmm, that's a good question because your situation is an odd one, they obviously can't anticipate every circumstance beforehand and have only given very general guidelines in terms of how they will give status for us combined flyers.

You have quite a few miles this year already, how many are actual qualifying miles? If you're only 10,000 miles short of making TWA Platinum/AA Exec Plat then I think a mileage run is in order to ensure making that level. The more you have to do the more I'd have to be convinced. But there are some decent fares to Asia now that would make acceptable mileage/status runs.

Remember that making it to AA Exec Plat will get you 6 VIPOW, upgrade certificates that would be worth the effort.

American has said that 2002 AAdvantage Elite status will only be determined by American's criteria (points, miles or segments) and not by TWA criteria (dollars spent).

Based on that, I do not believe you will be able to qualify in the manner you asked about.

I called the Elite 1 desk to find out about q miles.

They said I had 50,000 or so this year and the revenue was just over $15,000.

I only have about $2,000 of outstanding travel before the TWA codes go away. It looks like I'll get to experience a whole lot of coach class next year.
