American Express Membership Rewards - Expired AMEX Platinum -- Airport Lounge Access

I recently cancelled my AMEX Platinum and switched to Citi PremierPass World Elite.

Do you think I can still access the airport lounges with cancelled/expired AMEX Platinum? ;)

There was a similar thread no so long ago, they swipe your card so the airliens can charge AMEX so maybe if they let you in, expect a not-so nice call from them.

A slightly different situation:

I had a UK plat with Priority Pass. I stopped using Priority Pass, and about a month later cancelled UK plat.

A few weeks later, I started getting bills from Amex plat. I rang them up and they said it was because I'd used Priority Pass after my Amex had expired. Well, I hadn't. The lounges concerned had manually processed the visits some weeks later. I had the vouchers to prove the date of my visit. The Amex rep said it was a common problem but that it was nothing to do with them. I would have to get the charges reversed by PP or pay Amex.

I thought this was all nonsense - PP came with Amex and I'd never authorised PP to make charges to my Amex card in respect of my own visits. But I'd long become used to Amex's useless service and wasn't going to waste time arguing.

I rang PP who were very friendly and sorted it out. They said that the "date of visit" information is available to Amex and is ignored. They also said that Amex didn't supply them with "cancelled card" lists. So this problem was inevitable.

Personally I just disliked the way Amex default to assuming you used PP after you cancelled Amex Plat.

I would never underestimate Amex's ability to pin a charge on you - whether you actually owe it or whether its the result of sloppy IT practices and failing to join the dots.

Are you trying to determine if you can scam your way into the lounges with an invalid card?

If so, the answer should be, "no you can not and why are you seriously asking this question?"

You can be like some of the bums here and hang around the door begging for an invite, but then everyone would hate you. I'd just wait for the next amex promo and get the card again.
