Can anyone recommend buying noise reduction headphones for use for flying on CX, which ideally would be good for BA, QF and JL.
Ideas appreciated as I have got rather disappointed with the the CX supplied phones.
Thanks

I have owned both the Bose QC and the Etymotic Research 6i isolators. Both work well, but I prefer Etymotic Research 6i's hands down. They block more noise, they are compact, extremely lightweight, allow you to sleep on your side when wearing them, and if price matters they are less expensive. Note: if you do not use an iPod or other mp3 player then I would recommend getting the Etymotic Research ER•6 instead of the 6i version. The other major brand that is similar is Shure. For more information on the products mentioned above see the following links:
FT Travel Technology Forum (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=169) (Do a search in this forum on etymotic and you will find numerous threads comparing noise isolating and noise canceling headsets)
Etymotic Research (http://www.etymotic.com/Default.aspx)
Shure Electronics (http://store.shure.com/store/shure/en_US/DisplayCategoryProductListPage/categoryID.12165500)
Bose (http://www.bose.com/controller?event=VIEW_PRODUCT_PAGE_EVENT&product=headphones_anc_subcategory)
I would imagine all of the above are compatible with the airlines you mention; however I won't have first hand experience on those particular airlines until November. Others would have to comment on availability of these products in HKG, as I purchased mine in the US. I still hope the info provided above is helpful.

As the topic doesn't really have anything to do with Asiamiles or in particular with CX specifically, this thread is being moved to a more appropriate forum.

I love that the OPs post sounds like the earphone you'd ideally want to use whilst flying CX might be different from those you'd want to use whilst flying other airlines. In which case it would relate to CX ;).
