As of 19SEP08 schedule listing in Amadeus, it looks like ASIANA has shelved the plan to operate Daily New York service.
Original plan was 3 weekly 777 and 4 weekly 747.
4 weekly 747 will be operating this winter.

Maybe the 777 is delayed by the Boeing strike and therefore they are waiting to be certain of having an aircraft for the service before they continue selling seats.

What a win-win situation.
Aside from longhaul reductions such as LAX and JFK, Asiana is to increase some of major Asian routes such as SIN, BKK, SGN, SPN this winter. Especially strengthen morning flights to SPN and SGN.

Hanoi and Tashkent will get a 777. Especially the latter because it usually operates with A330

Except that OZ made award booking available several months ago. I am now stuck with an award seat (actually two) on the day it's not operating and trying to figure out how to get the seats (in C) switched to a different date.

I got two award seats, and they automatically bumped me to the next available flight (which is a day later)

Which program miles did you use? Were they able to open the C seats for you? TIA.

I was bumped also. United (since I was using my United mileage) called me and asked whether revised departure date was ok or not. That was back in August when Asiana was in process of loading new schedules for fall/winter.

I wouldn't call not having a daily flight to NY a win-win situation.

Oh: My post revised to Continue selling seats :
Guess like OZ promised you seats..Boeing or a reseller promised OZ an aircraft.

I actually ended up calling OZ directly, and their service is incredible (my first encounter with them). I was able to switch to my first choice return date when it wasn't initially available. They manually opened up 2 C award seats to accommodate this schedule change (keep in mind this was using UA miles and I have no status with OZ). If it was on UA metal, I can totally see UA reps telling me to accept a downgrade to Y on the original date or get lost. Perhaps I will be more inclined to fly OZ to Asia from now on.
BTW, do I need new paper tix reissued by UA (originally issued as paper tix)? I have an email (revised) itinerary from OZ, though.
