For years, whenever Mercedes Colinet wanted to visit family back home in the Dominican Republic, her choice of airline was clear: TWA.

Now Colinet, of Washington Heights, must find another carrier — one that, unlike TWA, will accommodate the two large suitcases full of gifts for family and friends that she plans to take with her next month.

"I've got shirts for my six brothers, shoes for my five sisters and perfume for everyone. Plus toys and underwear," said Colinet.

An angry group of nearly 100 Dominican New Yorkers picketed outside the TWA ticketing office on Park Ave. yesterday to protest tight new restrictions the airline has placed on the amount of luggage allowed aboard flights from Kennedy Airport to the Dominican Republic.

"Want my money? Carry my baggage!" one protester's sign said.
