OZ's US site doesn't give one the option of choosing the type of Y fare during booking. Is calling the reservation center the only way? Are travel agents able to book upgradeable fare classes? TIA.

If so I found it cheaper to actually buy a Business Class fare than a higher economy fare. TA should be able to purchase any fare class that is available. LAX Blackcloud Sep 22, 08, 2:33 pm You mean discounted C is cheaper than upgradable Y?! Does this really make sense (not doubting you, though)? LAX It depends on the availability of discounted C. Yes it can sometimes be cheaper or just a couple of hundered dollars more than the high fare class Y that you need to get for *A upgrades. Better value to me as you get C class earning and save the miles/points. I do not know that many people who actually think the *A upgrades as good value. philphys Sep 23, 08, 3:48 am Assuming that you are flying US-Korea route, a straight business-class Korea-US award (R/T) costs 105,000 while Y->C upgrade costs 60,000, roundtrip, according to Asiana's website. Considering that Q and lower booking classes are not eligible for this upgrade, this basically means 55,000 miles vs a Y/B/M/H-class ticket. I don't know about your circumstances, but even if a discounted business class ticket costs more than Y, I'm not sure if I would be willing to spend that 55k miles against the price difference. If you consider the additional miles that you would be able to earn vs. going the upgrade route, the choice seems pretty clear. jsnearline Sep 23, 08, 3:31 pm I think you you actually can do it on the website. From the Flight Search page, look for the link that says "More search options: Class, Direct / non stop Flights Only, Avoid penalties" (it's right below "3 Who is going on this trip?"). Clicking this link will display "4 Do you have any preferences?". Make sure Economy/Coach is selected for the class and then click the "Refundable flights only" checkbox. Blackcloud Sep 23, 08, 6:02 pm Oh one final thought I believe UA does not participate in the *A upgrade scheme so before you buy your ticket please ensure you have the correct FFP, points and availability to do the upgrade. |
