Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - CX Use of BA JFK Lounge - Horribble

Sitting in BA F Lounge at JFK. CX 831 delayed. I hope CX is not paying - and listening. Food meagre. Two types of sandwiches which have all been eaten and not replaced. Chips and some apples. Red wine. Three bottles - two empty and third with cork broken and not opened. Horrid. AA Admirals Club starting to look good.

AOTR, sounds like this should continue something along the lines of:

Running out of water. Battery dying. Snow piling up. Sun going down, now,.... getting cold. Tell Mom that I love her......

Although the food is also limited (there are some cup noodles), I really liked its interior design and shower facility.

The F lounge is really quite threadbare. The lounge attendants recently advised us to feel free to use the J lounge, as "most people prefer it"....

Both and the CR are due to be totally renovated in the next year. Pre construction has already started.

The food and drink offering is terrible, but the lounge itself is nice enough. Yes there is usually better food in the J lounge.

The J side is much nicer.. more food and snack choices.. brighter, more places to sit, and the aircon is also a lot better...

this is really great and interesting info...I've been there 10+ times in the past couple of years and I never had the thought to visit the J side...next time I'll for sure remember to try. (I was on the J side briefly once to use the shower - but found it to be not that impressive, old/worn towels etc - but never thought about checking out the food offerings etc)

I absolutely HATE the lounge at JFK. There's no proper food offerings at either the F or the J class lounge. Showers are not open when there are no BA flights out of JFK. If showers are offered, the towels are torn and tattered. I, however, liked the interior decor of J class lounge. Wished CX has its own lounge in JFK.

The problem is that the F lounge is not BA's F class lounge. BA's own F passengers are encouraged to use the Concorde room and this is where BA tries to please its First passengers. The F lounge is for OW Emeralds (and CX F).

If CX can't secure Concorde access for its F passengers I don't see why they can't pay to have enhanced food at CX departure times.

As others comment all the lounges are due to be refurbished, to the new Galleries format next year. The Galleries F in London is good, so hopefully there will be an improvement at JFK.

Because they are too cheap to do it? I know NH offers japanese snacks and other food items during the NH departure time slot...

oh, last time I arrived like 10 am for the 2 pm JFK-HKG flight (because the connecting flight arrived late and I missed the 10 am flight), no wonder there's some extra food there e.g. Japanese rice balls, etc, and in fact some Japanese magazines there too if I remember right - and yes, all those disappeared around 12 noon - 1 pm, which I assume is the time of the NH flight ?

I think maybe it's CX's tradition not to provide anything extra to what's being offered in the lounge they have paid for ?

I don't know if it is still the case - but I recall in the past when flying CX F out of JFK that they offered the pre-flight dining option that I thought was reserved for only BA passengers. Don't know if they made a mistake, or were just being nice. But it was a lot better than what was in the F lounge. You had to go through the J lounge and then re-enter a dining area towards the back left of that lounge.

Yes, CX First Class passengers can use the BA pre-flight supper, which offers a full dinner buffet. OW Emeralds do not have access to this (unless they are flying BA J of course).

You forgot to mention the horrid waitstaff who stand around gossiping and snap at anyone with a request.

They were actually really pleasant and very chatty with me when I was there last time. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with them.

Waitstaff was completely dysfunctional. Not clearing used dishes and glasses. No refreshing to supplies. I have another 4 hr layover at this lounge next March. Yech. Preflight dinner is not an option since I am taking the 1455 JFK-HKG. I may just stay for a few hours at the AA Flagship Lounge in T8 before heading to T7.

Why not go a bit early and book yourself into a massage in the BA lounge? (Assuming those are still on offer?)

Not offered at this lounge.

When did they stop offering them? They had them on offer last time I was there, and the BA website seems to still say it is available: http://www.britishairways.com/travel/terraces/public/en_gb

where it says, "Elemis has designed an exclusive British Airways menu for both men and women. Departing customers will benefit from treatments designed to aid sleep and relaxation, whilst therapy for new arrivals will leave you feeling re-awakened and energised. Elemis spa facilities are available at London Heathrow and at New York JFK Terminal 7."

When I was last there as you walked into the lounge you had to turn to the right for the business class lounge, and the Elemis folks were setup straight ahead and taking appointments. Did they stop offering that?

Much like the table service at the CR in London.

Probably because there was a plastic card describing each one. @:-)

As the OP. Yes, two trays with nice plastic covers and the accompanying card. Tuna fish - the other cucumber. Four kinds of chips and cheddar cheese flavored popcorn. I am so looking forward to my next four hour layover at JFK.

I think they've had the same Sandwiches for years now :)
I've always found the BA Terraces lounge at JFK good. Sure it is not luxurious with Philip Starck bathrooms, however it does offer plenty of seats, snacks and drinks.

I have used this lounge twice. It LOOKS like it should have great food choices - but they are as other posters have described - not much.

However, I find the physical layout of the lounge to be comfortable. You are not on top of other passengers, and the seating is comfortable. Maybe not a lounge I would enjoy on a layover, but as my outbound first leg, it is more than fine.
