I have an avi file which I want to convert for use on a Blackberry Curve. I tried Blackberry Converter by Seabyrd but the quality of the video is junk. The original video is in near DVD quality. I used to use the Media Manager in Desktop Manager but that button is disabled for some reason now. Tried disabling/enabling mass media storage mode but no go.

Any other free converters which are better? I had done some conversions with Media Manager (Roxio) and they were very good quality.

Ended up downloading ffmpeg (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=205275&package_id=248632) and using the script below. Much faster then mencoder and good quality.

I wanted to be able to convert more then one file. Using it on command line...

ffmpeg -i %1 -f mp4 -vcodec mpeg4 -b 400k -r 24 -s 320x180 -aspect 16:9 -ar 22050 -a
c 2 -ab 48k %1-BB.mp4

Anyone wanting to convert youtube videos for use on BB cut and paste the video URL into www.keepvid.com. Select the Download link and save the file. Even though the file is mp4 it does not play. You will have to convert using some of the tools mentioned above.

+1 for Super. I use it with all of my Blackberry vids. Quality is whatever I set it to, but the settings I've been using as of late appear crystal clear on the Blackberry's screen. I have both seasons of Channel4's Balls of Steel on my 8830, along with quite a few other things. My computer automatically records the local morning news, encodes it, and copies it to the Blackberry each morning. I also have a few NYTimes podcasts that get downloaded to the Blackberry each morning as well.
