Hilton HHonors - Continental miles to HHoners...can it be done?

Hi ! A question for the HHonors experts here:

Is there a way to convert my Continental Airlines miles into HHonors points.

I know you can with AA, but I checked on both HHonors and Continental websites and appears you can only go the other way (points into miles).

Any ideas are appreciated.

Already discussed in other threads, such as the following fairly recent one:

Converting SPG or CO to HH (www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=766832)

Be sure to look at the WHOLE thread (it's not very long), as things have changed (for the worse) in this area. :(

Except that that thread is out of date already!

If anyone is considering using AGR (Amtrak Guest Rewards) for transfers, they need to go that forum and read all the latest on transfers and the program itself there.

Two major things have changed since that thread you quoted had its last post:

1. AGR insistuted a $200 spend on Amtrak travel charged to the AGR MC each calendar year as a requirement for transfering out (unless you're elite with Amtrak).

2. AGR has been being administered by Carlson (of goldpoint plus fame/infamy), but their contract is running out this month, and so someone else will take over, and we have no idea what else might change at AGR after that. (Not that we had any idea with Carlson, as they specialize in no-advance-notice radical changes to their programs.)

So I would say AGR is a very risky transfer vehicle right now.

Most airlines don't let you transfer out. AA is the big exception. They allow transfer out to HH and to Diners Club. No other airline allows either.

Amtrak is not an airline, and while it allows transfer to HH after you jump through enormous hoops (getting a credit card then buying $200 of Amtrak train tickets with it!), it's a very dangerous program to transfer points through.

In general, lots of hotels let you transfer their points to lots of airlines, but hardly any airlines let you transfer their miles to any hotel chains.

Btw, another way that AA lets you use miles for hotels is that it lets you redeem miles for AA Vacations. But CO doesn't seem to do that either!

Thanks for the update!

Some of us have not such a high opinion of Carlson, so perhaps if a new company comes in to administer AGR, it will be an improvement. One can always hope.

Still, the requirement to charge $200 in Amtrak travel on the AGR MC is pretty draconian! If I lived in the Northeast Corridor, I imagine I would probably buy enough travel on Amtrak for this to work for me (or I might even be elite) but in many, or most, parts of the country, Amtrak travel just isn't that convenient or appealing a transportation option. :(
