Korea - Seeking hotel suggestion for Gyeongju (Korea)

Can any one recommend a hotel in Gyeongju? I'll be there for two days (arriving by bus from PUS and leaving by train) and want to see the main sites.

The choices seem to be downtown (e.g., the Gyeongju Park, which sounds pretty dire), the fancy hotels around the lake (which are miles from anything I'm interested in), and those near the Bulguksa temple (e.g., the Kolon Hotel).

I'm after comfort and convenience and my budget can handle any of the options above, but I'm really looking for personal recommendations, or new ideas.

Thanks.

I would sincerely recommend the Kolon hotel below Bulguksa. It's modelled after classic Japanese luxury hotels and one of the best experiences I have ever had in Korea.

Very nice sauna/spa, private golf course with butler service, relaxing surroundings (downtown Gyeongju is really nothing special apart from the scenic areas) and easy access to some of the most interesting sights in Korea.

Gyeongju is well known in Korea for just mediocre food so you should not feel sorry to have in-house meals. The only local claims for culinary fame are bakery goods such as bread and cakes...

Thank you mosburger, that was exactly the kind of local insight I was looking for.
