I am keen on regaining plat status this year, after having lost it in 07.

I have 18 stays, and will be qualifying that way.

Since there are 4 months left to do this, it shouldn't be too hard, but I also don't want it to be too expensive. I am open to visiting hotels in the Tri-State area for a day or two, but let's face it, most of the affordable ones are not in areas that one just "must see".

So where to go? I have no int'l trips planned that would require hotel stays (I'm going to London and probably Paris before the end of the year, but both of those trips I will be staying with family, so no hotels needed - in any case, that would be financial suicide).

What's your strategy for SPG re-qualification? Any good hotels (for cheap stays) in the north east that I should know about?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

If you are around Heathrow during a weekend both Sheratons run about 49 pounds on many weekends. With the weaker pound, this is a pretty good deal.

You may want to wait to decide until the 4th quarter promo comes out on 16 September. This would maximize your point earning or you could chose the double stay credit if offered to you and just do 4 stays instead of 7.

Most CT properties are in the $90-$119 range for winter weekends. The Sheraton Long Island, Westin Morristown, and Westin Princeton are around $109-119.

You can usually get good rates around the holidays outside of NYC.
