I just booked via Otel.com for a stay in Le Meridien in Nice this October and it's prepaid. I am wondering if I can earn spg points on this booking? Appreciate any one to share his/her similar experience.

Not sure why you would do that sight vs. spg.com. doesn't spg.com gurantee best prices? unless it was a mistake, i would think you should be able to get a price match by spg.com by calling. das Sep 5, 08, 9:34 am i don't think you will earn points. Not just a price match, but a discount (I think 10%) or 2000 Starpoints. Plus you don't pay the ridiculous "booking fees" that are bundled in with hotel taxes on most online travel agencies. For these reasons, I never, ever book a chain hotel through any other means than the hotel chain's website, and in your case it's probably worth paying the cancellation fee to start over. 3Cforme Sep 5, 08, 9:58 am Our experiences don't establish the rule: Starwood does. http://www.starwoodhotels.com/preferredguest/legal/spg_terms.html#8 goldcap Sep 5, 08, 10:32 am thanks for the above comments. but I do appreciate if anyone can share the firsthand expereince of earning spg points by booking starwood properties via otel.com. I did get a price match from starwood, but Otel.com price includes room, breakfast and tax, and otel also give me 5% credit towards future booking, which is great. But anyway, it's the first time for me to use otel.com, so really need comments from fellows who have used the website before. I don't have any personal experience booking over this web site, but pre-paid rates booked over a third-party web site are not eligible to earn Starpoints or stay/night credit. Check your cancellation policy if you want to rebook direct. Never used it for Starwood though as I value my SPG benefits. pushback Sep 5, 08, 11:15 am As a side note ... just took a look at otel.com. A little misleading (A lot misleading). Banner on the front page says "Become a Member and get 5% Cash Back." When you click on the banner, it says You can earn credits of at least 5% or more of the price of your booking. The credits you earn with each booking are redeemable towards hotel bookings made through otel.com. (as the OP said) That's not how cash back works in my definition. There's a big between spending $1000 and getting $50 back on my credit card (or a check) and having the $50 going against a future stay, benefiting my employer--or never being used. Not sure how they can call that "cash back" with a straight face, but the world of marketing is full of deception and lies, so why should I be surprised? (I wasn't) |
