My family is flying OZ from DEN - MNL in November. I was just notified of a schedule change that reduces our outbound layover in SFO from 2 hrs 10min to 1hr 50 min. The return layover at LAX has been shortened from 2 hrs 20 min to 1 hr 50 min. My question is whether the connections are still guaranteed. Thanks.

Connecting at SFO with 1 hr 50 minutes is more than sufficient. Are you going to fly UA from DEN to SFO? If so, you can catch Star Alliance Bus near gate 72 that will take you from domestic terminal to international terminal without going through security again. If you are going to fly AA to SFO, you can still go to gate 72 to catch the bus. If you fly Frontier or WN or any airline that uses Concourse A or B, you have to go out and go to international terminal where you will need to go through security again. Even then, 1 hr 50 min is enough unless your flight to SFO is delayed.

As for LAX, that's a different matter. If this is your gateway city, you need to go through immigration at LAX, which can take a long time depending on your nationality. If you are a US citizen, you should be able to clear immigration, pick up your luggages, recheck them within an hour. If you are a foreign national, prepare for a long line at immigration. You also have to move from international terminal to domestic terminal to catch your next flight, which may be a hassle. Still, if you move quick, you should be alright. After all, all your connections are considered "legal."

I called Asiana and found out that because of the schedule change, the connection in SFO is still guaranteed, but the one in LAX is not. They told me that the minimum connection time in LAX coming back to the US is two hours. Asiana was kind enough to put us on a UA flight an hour and a half later and restore the guaranteed connection.

While I was a bit annoyed that Asiana's website booking partner WWTE had not adjusted our return to Denver to ensure our connection was still legal, I'm actually glad I booked the reservation when I did. Because of the schedule change, Asiana is no longer selling our itinerary on the return. If I booked now, We'd have to leave MNL at midnight and we'd be stuck with a 12hour layover in Seoul waiting for the connection to LA. That's fine if I were traveling on my own, but pure hell with a baby in tow.

The other silver lining is that WWTE should be out of the mix now that Asiana has re-issued the tickets. Those who have seen my last post about my fight to get them to give me an accurate receipt might understand why this makes me quite happy.

Thanks for the heads up about the Star Alliance bus at SFO. I was not looking forward to taking tbe little one through security twice in one morning.
