Hilton HHonors - Diamond Desk says 1 paid, 1 award room on separate confirmations = 0 points

Hi all....I know the subject of "how many rooms do I get credit for" has come up numerous times before, but I did a search and don't find this exact situation, so I'll ask for your help.

The family went on vacation for six nights in August. I paid points for the room for my wife and me and reserved it under its own confirmation number. I put the reservation for my in-laws' room in my name and reserved it under its own confirmation number, then added my F-I-L's name after the fact.

Points haven't shown up yet, so I just called the DD and they said that even though the rooms were not reserved under the same confirmation number, anytime a paid stay occurs at the same time as an award stay, at the same property and both to be credited to the same HH number, their system treats the both stays as award stays and does not award points for the $$ spent on the non-award room.

(Edited to add: I knew I couldn't show up for the first night due to work, so the DD actually put the award reservation in my wife's name and issued a new confirmation number and certificate so that she could check in without me. I didn't think that this one would post to my account since it had been switched to her name only -- but I certainly expected to get the points on the paid room. The only thing that has shown up is the 500 point AMEX online booking bonus.)

I'm planning to call back since I've never heard of this before, and will argue that it's not specifically indicated in the T&Cs, but wanted to see if anyone else has had any experience with this.

Thanks in advance.

Personally I dont buy it.
In fact in July I had two rooms at the Paddington, one paid and the other was a reward and I got stay credit and points for the paid room.

I would just wait a few days ( though personally I doubt it) and see if it posts.
If not, fax the paid stay folio to HH.com and tell them your stay has not posted properly ( I would omit the reward stay part of the story;))

But if one can get points on the charges to the room on a reward stay, it makes no sense whats been related to you.

You've got a receipt for a paid room in your name. What's the problem? It doesn't matter how the 'system' 'sees' award + paid rooms in the same name. Surely HH does manual postings every day.

This is my fallback -- I didn't happen to have the receipt with me at the office today when I called. I'll give it a few days and fax it in....and given past history, that will be the end of that. Just wanted others' view on what appeared to be a DD agent making it up as he went along. (And I'm not even sure he was a DD agent, but rather that my called rolled over. Although he did say "DD, how can I help you," I didn't get the usage of "Mr. bankingconsultant" and the thanks that the normal DD agents usually lavish.)

I will be interested to hear what happens.. I have a GLON2 award stay in Beijing for the first week of a two week stay... They are supposed to have two different reservation numbers because I already have the award stay reserved, and the paid stay is through a conference booking. I would hate to loose the points for the paid portion.

Hmmm...this shouldn't be a problem. I've done the exact same thing (except that I stayed in the paid room) and gotten the point. Mind you, it was two years ago so the policy may have changed since then. I would call DD back to see if you get a different answer.

I've done the same thing, and agree with the concensus here. No reason your paid room shouldn't earn points.

Explanation given was bogus. It's clear that even on award stays you can earn points. In fact, I've ALWAYS earned points on award stays. Any charges you incur would result in additional points as well.

Call call call.

To reiterate what others have said: even if it's true that the "system" does this, there's no reason that HHononrs cannot/should not manually post the points! It sounds like a copout to simply blame this on their "system."
