I guess Lounge access at low silver elite level (30k miles) is too good to be true, only just realised that you have to pay US$50 to be in Marco polo club.

My question is,"Is the US$50 fee annually? or one time thing? Or you need to requalify at green every year not to lose status?"

US$50 is a one time joining fee. It is not annually. Then you get a Green card.

Once you get 30k miles, you get Silver Status and that will get you into CX lounges when you fly on CX economy class. If you travel on Business or First Class, you get lounge privileges anyway.

You need to fly on Oneworld carriers to earn the 30K miles but you need at least 4 CX sectors a year.

You will need to maintain 30K every year to keep Silver Status. But once you requalify for Silver, you may aim for Gold and beyond.

In HK, you can apply for the Amex CX card to get the green status.

Hi, I rarely fly oneworld carriers, but will be flying to HK on Cathay in business class. In terms of qualifying for elite status, does it make sense for me to join MPC, as I'll likely be flying several segments on CX/KA once I get there?

Nevertheless, I'm based in the US and will be going back later in the year, so would it otherwise make sense for me to join AAdvantage? I would normally do so, but the confusing point for me is that they require 4 segments on AA to attain status. However, the CX flight I'm taking (JFK-HKG-JFK), bought on cathaypacific.com, is also codeshared as an AA flight. Would this count then as an AA flight?

Thanks.

It may not be worthwhile to join MPC if you do not fly much on CX/KA. In regards to AA elite qualification requirement, the people on the AA forum are much more knowledgeable. If you buy on cathaypacific.com, it should not be a AA codeshare and will ulikely be counted towards the four AA segments. Having said that, I don't know if AA starts enforcing that yet.

MPC rules say 4 sectors to renew green
What happens if you fail to renew?
are you dropped up and have to reapply with $50 again?
Or do you just lose green status?

It will only count as AA flight if the flight number begins with AA on your ticket.

Technically, you will lose the Green status, but I heard of cases that people not flying for several years still maintained the Green status. BTW, for MPC, the four sectors are MPC sectors, which are not necessarily on CX/KA.

One thing to notice is that MPC is in the BA/JL "no status miles for lower economy fares" school of conduct. So no club miles for many economy booking classes.
