i've flown DragonAir before - NRT-HKG and did not feel it is any different from CX. Wondering if anyone has done the above leg and has comments, specifically if its a full service flight and also if the aircrafts are the same, etc.. been asked to recommend this over SQ and am not sure.

All CX and KA scheduled services are "full service".

What class are you looking at? For Y then I'd take the direct flight to minimize the pain. For J I might consider SQ since it's a long way to fly in J with a seat that just reclines a bit.

Thanks. Its in Y, unfortunately J is not an option and SQ is not an option either.

Flew in J last month - very happy, and was quite comfortable. Service was equal to being in F

I thought some of the KA flts to Changsha and some other destinations in Southern China offer drinks only.

I think that only happen for ultra short haul only, and depends on the time you flew out ...

I once flew to Sanya and it is biscuits and drink (approx 6.40pm), and cannot remember the return catering
To KHH and it is full breakfast (10.00am depart)
Return from TPE on CX is full dinner (CX4xx, forgot)

This new connection makes travelling between India and Hong Kong much more hasslefree than going via BKK, SIN or KL. The service is not as good as on CX in terms of food and inflight video, but Y class is often not very full and so far I always got a full row (4 seats) on recent flights. Definitively better than going via Singapore with on crowded Y class in SQ!

accordingly to this page https://www.dragonair.com/da/en_INTL/whatonboard/meals/inflightdinning:Flights between Hong Kong and Changsha, Guilin, Haikou and Sanya will only serve beverages for Economy class passengers.

I'm late to this thread, but better to respond now that never: I flew HKG-BLR on KA152 recently, connecting to Cochin on IT a few hours later. Usually I take Silk Air from Singapore. I'm a leisure Y traveler (SFO to India 2-3x a year), and CX/KA have pretty much won me over on several counts, including legroom, seat recline, entertainment.

KA uses 33Ls with PTVs, but no AVOD. SilkAir was much more cramped and had crappy drop-down screens. It's not mainline CX, but KA was certainly a lot better than I'd imagined for a subsidiary, having flown, and generally not though much of, MI. I'll most likely stick to CX/KA over SQ now, particularly since the last two trips home within months of each other got me to MPC Silver.
