The last I could find in search on FT was point combining is not allowed. It was okay at one time for spouses.

I looked on the web site and there was some program where people could donate points to a couple getting married. That is not my case (that was 34 years ago), but is there a crack that might allow us to get the room?

My wife has 128,000 and I 54,000. Looking to stay 6 nights (GLON2) at a cat 5 Hampton Inn and Suites in Vancouver. She is a tarnished silver, as am I (we have not been doing much with Hilton lately). I believe that award is 150,000.GLON2

But, it costs money to transfer points. From the cited HHonors webpage:

HHonors points can be transferred to any other HHonors member in increments of 10,000 points, at a cost of $25.00 per 10,000 points.

That is the catch with it. It is cheaper just to pay the rate then move everything around Airlines are even worse.

I think it is not reasonable to expect that points can be transferred with no fee. You could debate whether this is a fair fee- it seems not unreasonable to me as it allows for a good bit of residual value (transfer fee is $0.0025 per point vs value of say $0.01 per point), and is not so expensive for a "top off" of 10-20,000 points to get a large award (which is the only time transfers should be used IMO.)

She only needs 22,000 points. If you don't have the HH Amex card then I'd apply for it - I think they have some sort of promotion that gives you 20,000 points for signing up and using it the first time? That would leave you 2,000 points short.....others might have an idea for getting 2,000 points. Amex Rewards perhaps? Or transfer from Airline miles (though that will cost you some money).

If you do Erewards a $50 redemption is 3000 points. One other thing you could do is an AXON reward but thats only for 4 nights and 125000 points so your short 2 nights but have enough point for it. Good Luck.

After getting the Amex card, just spend $400--$667 on it to get the last 2K points. BTW, I disagree with Pauleeepaul. Why should there be a fee of 30 to with airlines 60% of value to put points in another acct.?

If U don't want another credit card, U can suck up the $50 fee to transfer 20K to your wife, then find someone with e-rewards or Diners' Club to give her the last 2--3K.

I vote for the credit card route -- if you look on pgary's website (www.freefrequentflyermiles.com), click on credit cards on left menu, click on free cards, scroll about half way down the page (the page is very long) the existing Hilton offers are there.

Don't forget you can do the AmEx and the Visa. Amex has a 10k for first use, 30k bonus for charging $1500 in three months (40k total) -- offer #1. The Visa has 15k for first use.

If you click thru pgary's site, he get's a little kicker as well. Not bad for the work he does to keep it going!

With Amex print EVERYTHING from the Amex website for future reference (and potential arguing for points).

If you transfer over, 30k points are $75 which you could say is what you pay for the stay. Still cheap and you avoid having to open more credit cards.

Good luck!

Another approach is to apply for the AA credit card. 25K bonus for $750 in spending which will turn into 50K HHonors.

A little OT, but that HI should not be anywhere close to a Cat 5!!

The 4-night AXON award is good, but it also requires that you have an HHonors Amex card.

Hmmm....

To the OP: Just out of curiosity, how much would you have to pay in cash for your stay for the dates you are considering?

glad to see I am not the only one surprised about that. I am new to HHonors point collecting, but that classification seemed ... wrong.

Ditto the WTH on the Cat. 5 Hampton Inn! Note that the Palmer House of Chicago is also Cat. 5. Of course, by using a GLON one pays Cat. 3 points :) of 25K per night.

When I went to Vancouver this May, I stayed at the Hyatt which is underpriced at a Cat. 2! (I would expect 3.)
