Do I need to have a ticket issued before I can ask for upgarde? or booking is fine for upgrade request.

You can get on Cathay website and book the upgrade before booking the underlying ticket. At least that still worked for me two months ago.

Just remember to ticket the underlying ticket and confirm the upgrade before the upgrade deadline.

How do I know the deadline? And how do I confirm it?
I did my upgrade more than a week ago for my flight on Sept 10. And still so far I didn't receive anything in the mail box.

I forgot exactly how I was notified of the deadline. It might be on the page when the upgrade booking was done. However, there should be an email sent to you. They may even call you. If you have not received any email from Asia Miles, you may want to check your spam folder (it happened to me once that it ended in my spam folder) or call them.

After you ticket, you can call MPC or AM to confirm. Note: In the notice, it may say that the award will be automatically issued, but I do not trust that. It is better that you call after ticketing.
