Budget Travel - One way ticket from Paris to New York

I'd like to see if I can book a one way ticket from Paris to New York (preferably Newark, but I'll do JFK) at the end of December or beginning of January. Is there any cheap way of doing this? I live in the US.

If you do a search using something like ITA (www.itasoftware.com), what are you coming up with, as a baseline? Also, what does "cheap" mean to you, in dollars?

The cheapest I can find is $512 - check Aer Lingus out of CDG on Thurs, Sat, Sun, or Tues starting in January.

Welcome to FT. Generally purchasing international tickets, especially one-way tickets, is best done in the country of origin. This is especially so in Europe where mega agencies are given big discounts by the airlines. Not sure if you are in the US and if so, I am sure it is tough to find a reputable one in France from the US. I have contacts for several other countries in Europe but unfortunately not in France.

The OP is asking about flying FROM Paris to the US and international fares are rarely the same when flying in the other direction.

One way tickets are generally the best value awards you can get with miles. Both bmi (Star Alliance) and Flying Blue (Skyteam) allow one way redemptions.

With bmi you could sign up and get 3,000 miles. This leaves you with 9,500 miles you'd need to collect to be able to purchase a one way flight from Paris to NY for £70 plus taxes.

Although you can buy those miles for £120, there should, hopefully, be other ways to accumulate them. Either flying with *A carriers, such as UA, or staying at hotels. Check the bmi forum for more details.

Doesn't BMI require 22,500 for a OW, which would be 19,500 more miles?

The Air India advice is good. If you're student aged, I'd also recommend checking out a website like studentuniverse.com or statravel.

Additionally, if you are on a price crunch and have more flexibility, I'd take a look at finding the cheapest one way fares (via international LCC's like LTU, Condor, Aer Lingus, etc. (perhaps there are more suggestions as I've been a bit out of the game lately)) from anywhere in central/western Europe to the U.S. destination you want. Then, use an LCC or cheap train (depending on where you go) to get to the departure point.
