Question for those living in or familiar with the Twin Cities and are NPR listeners.
What's the difference between the Friday night live performance and Saturday afternoon live broadcast performance of A Prairie Home Companion? Is the former just a rehearsal for the latter? The former is also a lot cheaper.
TIA.
You stated the key word in your question: broadcast performance. If you want to be there live as the action happens on the radio, you'll pay more.
A quick search turned up the following:
A Prairie Home Companion announces their fall season of shows at The Fitzgerald Theater on October 4th, 11th; November 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd at 4:45 p.m. Join Garrison Keillor, Sue Scott, Tim Russell, Tom Keith, and the Guy's All-Star Shoe Band for two hours of live radio fun. The shows guests will be announced soon. A limited number of Rush Seats will be available at 4:00 p.m. on the day of the show.
There will also be five Friday Preview performances of A Prairie Home Companion at the Fitzgerald Theater on October 10th, 31st; November 7th, 14th, and 21st at 7:30 p.m. Join the Prairie Home Companion cast and crew for a preview of Saturday's live broadcast.

The bottom line is this: If the performance of A Prairie Home Companion does not start at 5 p.m. Central Time, it is not the live radio broadcast.
In the case of the Friday night preview shows, it is probably a reasonable facsimile of the following night's broadcast. In the case of the traveling state fair-type performances, it is probably a little more watered down (not the "A-list" guests, etc). But you would still get GK and the sound effects guy, etc.

Thanks all for the scoop. I don't get to listen to APHC live (wrong side of the border) and whenever I have, I can't remember if it was a live or repeat broadcast and whether the broadcast is a delayed airing or not.
Anyone here a member of MPR willing to help buy tickets? I'd buy direct but I generally try not to patronize ticketmonopoly.

MSPer here who's attended several Prairie Home performances, both live and taped.
In addition to the live performances at Saturday 5 pm central time, PHC is occasionally taped and rebroadcast during those weeks when the live shows aren't held. I attended one of these a few years ago for free (had to wait in quite a line though)

Looks like we lucked out into the guest star being Emmy Lou Harris. Not sure if she's only going to be performing this Saturday or in the live performance on Friday too.
