I tried looking for some information on this but couldn't seem to find it. I am a FF on SQ (PPS/Gold) and am flying TG from Singapore to Los Angeles. Given my gold status on SQ, do I get two or three check-in bags? And is the limit on each bag 23kgs? Thanks.

TG baggage allowance is....

Weight Concept

The weight concept is applied to all areas except for travels/connections to/from USA, its Territories, and Canada.

Royal First Class : 40 kgs (88 lbs.)
Royal Executive Class : 30 kgs (66 lbs.)
Economy Class : 20 kgs (44 lbs.)

Piece Concept

The piece concept is applied to all travels/connections to/from USA, its territories, and Canada.

Royal First Class /Royal Executive Class : Two pieces of checked baggage; the sum of the three dimensions shall not exceed 158 cms (62 inches) for each bag. The maximum weight per piece shall be not more than 32 kgs (70 lbs).

Economy Class : Two pieces of checked baggage ; the sum of the three dimensions shall not exceed 158 cms (62 inches) for each bag provided that the overall dimensions of such two pieces shall not exceed 273 cms (107 inches). The maximum weight per piece shall not be more than 32 kgs (70 lbs)

yycworldtraveler is right according to TG's rule stated on their website but as you know how "update" TG is with their info online, you might want to call TG (SIN) to make sure. The reason for that is when I flew UA 2 months ago from LAX-LHR in C (then onto SQ to SIN, for the A380:p). I was told by a UA check-in staff (one of those who stand by the quick self serve check-in machines) that due to US law that each checked bag cannot be more than 50lbs for safety reason to the baggage handling staff. This of cos made me ending up pulling a sport bag out from my suit case and repack some of the goods as I had only intend to check in 1 suit case.

Enjoy!

Don't you you also get a few kilos extra weight or one extra piece where piece concept is applied for being Star Alliance Gold or does that only apply to ROP Gold flying TG metal ?

Edit: Yep

Extra Baggage Allowance - an additional 20kg (44 pounds) or one additional piece of luggage* which means you can check in three bags instead of two.

* Applies on flights between North and South America.

Yes! You're also entitled to 10KG additional allowance on TG metals if you hold a TG ROP Silver card. :)

I called the TG office in Singapore and wanted to confirm what I saw on the website:

Star Alliance airlines

Top priority reservation waitlisting and airport standby* on all fully booked flights.

Priority check-in and boarding and baggage handling.

An additional 20 kilograms baggage allowance, or 1 piece of luggage when the piece concept applies.

Access to all airport lounges displaying the Star Alliance Gold symbol on presentation of same-day departing Star Alliance paid ticket and Gold card. One guest is also allowed provided they are also traveling on a paid ticket for same day departure with a Star Alliance Airline.
* Where permitted by law.

Flying to the US is on the piece principle - around 30kgs for the first two bags. But the TG guy kept telling me this might be different according to how the SQ Krisflyer program treats this??? I told him I was flying TG metal out from Singapore through Bangkok...

There was discussion about this on the SQ thread.

Apparently there are 'changes'.
