Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide

This is a port of last call as I've googled until my fingers are raw.

I plan my days around eating lunch with my wife and lunch takes up a sizeable chunk of the day. So the restaurant for lunch's location dictates that days sightseeing. And after lunch I head back and doze. Terrible, but true and I don't care what anyone else thinks of me.

I want to buy a Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide to be sent to the UK before my next trip. But the SMH doesn't send to the UK, and when I e-mailed and asked for an exception (twice) my notes were ignored. I cannot find a bookshop in the Uk that will sell me one.

Can anyone underneath who is sympathetic and understands the desire to preplan some of the lunches in advance suggest a source that might send me the latest version to the UK please?

Thanks.

Try Dymocks (http://www.dymocks.com.au). It appeared in their catalogue when I searched for it and they seem to do international deliveries.

They do! Many thanks for the pointer, I've just ordered it. Obviously the DHL charge makes my order look silly - but I'm really appreciative of simply finding someone to send it. :D

Thanks again for the pointer.

Many thanks - yes used it on our last trip. It was helpful with finding places around Circular Quay where we were staying, and other places we were visitng - but I think it's changed colour and appearance?

I'm determined to do better this time as to be frank we were quite dissapointed generally with restaurants that had been recomended. In fact we found a place or two at finger wharf, including some great wagyu beef.

We also had some good fish and chips at Manly, but I guess having watched so much of "Bill" we thought all of Sydney would be much more vibrant and better in terms of food quality than we had with our limited experience during our two week stay. It was hard to reconcile some of the recomendations with what we exerienced and I was particularly shocked to read about the deminishing quality of fish at the market - from the fish market operators themselves - and how pessimistic they were. I'm a very enthusiastic cook and I'm lucky to have access to good fish and found it perplexing.

So this time I'm going to do better! I'm going to seek out places away from the Quay that are enjoyed more by the locals than by tourists like me. We have the ferries on our doorstep so I'm hoping to find lots of new places.
