Trip Reports - AeroMexico Seattle-Mexico City Premier Clase'

A few months ago when we booked our tickets (paid) Aero Mexico had the least expensive FC fares to our final destination (San Miguel) by several hundred dollars a ticket. Since there were six of us traveling it made sense to try this one year old service.

Check –in was simple although there were no dedicated FC agents…all the stands were marked “coach”. We had a few pieces of luggage to check which made us a bit nervous since the night before Seattle had a rare heat lightening storm that evidently took out all electronics of the conveyor belts at the airport. When we arrived for check-in the belts were just beginning to be fixed….baggage was piled high… and we assumed we would never see our checked luggage again.

We asked about lounge privileges (not volunteered) and were directed to the NW lounge at the S gates. It was quiet and underwhelming…..

Boarding was a free-for-all but on time and we pushed back at 9:30. The FC cabin (a 737) is small. 12 seats somewhat cramped and with very little seat padding. They were, we all six agreed the most uncomfortable FC seats we had the privilege of sitting in. We sat for about 15 minutes 100 yards from the gate when we started to move again…. Back to the gate. Once we were back, the door open, the captain came on and said a warning light was on and we would be kept informed. 20 minutes later he announced we were good to go and after topping off the tanks we started out again.

The flight was uneventful. Long (almost 5 hours not including our hour delay) helped by a half tab of xanax. The breakfast was appalling ,eggs and potatoes and fruit, served at once on a single tray with plastic silverware. The potatoes, I swear, tasted like machine oil and looked like twice re-used leftovers from an uninspired cost conscious “chef”. The FA, who had the most beautiful pronunciation off the English language, disappeared behind the bulkhead curtain galley once breakfast service was over and we never saw him again “by choice”. He did respond to the call button….. Which we reluctantly used for water and sodas once.

We arrived in MEX at terminal 2….. and once we passed immigration, collected our luggage ( it arrived!), customs, and made our way to terminal 1 to the Hilton it was about 45 minutes or so. The Hilton, were we spent last night before resuming our trek to San Miguel, is an oasis in a very chaotic terminal. Although one of our party made the observation that the rooms look like a bedroom you would find in a rest home….simple, bland, sterile.

Overall…. We probably wouldn’t fly Aeromexico again on this route. Uncomfortable seats, only one flight a day if something goes wrong, really bad food, indifferent cabin service. Continental has a much better product when our final destination is San Miguel.

P.S. Don’t eat at the Italian restaurant near the food court at MEX….I am really surprised I did not wake up with food poisoning this morning. ( I haven't talked to or seen the other members of my party yet.... I hope they survived)

I've flown AM twice, one long haul SCL-MEX and another MEX-JFK. Their service levels were spotty at best. The MEX-JFK flight was >2k miles on a brand new next-gen 737 and the service and food were outstanding, one of the best 737 flights I've ever taken. The SCL-MEX was on a 762 and plane, food, and service were mediocre at best. The MEX ground experience is variable at best and horrible at worst.

Anyway, thanks for the TR. I'd love to see you report on your way back!

How 'bout some pics in the report (or at least a link to some on a photo-hosting site)? I'm dying to see their Clase Premier cabin!

I flew on AM in 1979 from Mexico City to Cabo San Lucas. The breakfast was not very good but I remember that the hostesses wore tight short skirts with high pointed shoes.

I think your imagination would be better than photos..... there are 12 seats, leather, thinly padded. It reminded me of some of my FC experiences on AS.
