Other Middle East and Africa Frequent Flyer Programs - SAA How strict with carry on limit

Flying from JNB to CPT and then CPT to JNB soon. How strict do they inforce the 8kg limit for carryon baggage. Seems very restrictive as my digital slr camera with two lens is 7 lbs by inself. As long as the carryon bag is not over size do the gate agents look the other way.

7 kgs is absurd. I have never been challenged on a domestic flight - I usually travel with a standard sized rollaboard. On international I have only once been asked to weigh my hand luggage and that was many years ago. I protested (Voyager Gold, travelling in J, so had an enhanced sense of my entitlement :p) and was told "ok, but just this once".

Whatever you do don't put valuables in the hold on SA!
