Jordan has a new regulation -- as "a safety measure" -- prohibiting tourists from bringing into Jordan a tallit, tefillin, Jewish prayer books, or volumes of the Talmud or Bible.

(Needless to say, Christians can wear crosses around their necks.)

So much for ever going to see Petra...

From the article... A Jordanian security official said the decision was taken only for "security reasons."

I'd divide anything the neocon JPost reports regarding Israel's neighbors by half; and then give it a good look askance. Have any reputable papers printed anything on this?

This is really not a new issue

About a year ago the same thing arose as tours of religious Jews that I think were organized for Bar Ilan University staff were told that they couldn't bring in teffilin etc.

There was some noise at the time with the tour operator saying that the matter would be resolved and then the issue quieted down so I assumed it was resolved.

But looks like it is back in business again

I have heard that its still an issue. Its a shame that I didnt take advantage of the opportunity when it was allowed.
