Hey everyone,

Next Tuesday, August 19th, I'm flying BUR-JFK-SYR. When I booked the flight, potential delays didn't really cross my mind, and now I'm stuck arriving in JFK at 10:07 PM with a departing flight to Syracuse at 10:55 PM. With the recent delays/cancellations affecting B6 in the northeast, should I worried about my travel plans being significantly affected? If, unfortunately, I miss my connection (or the connection is cancelled), what's the probability I'll be spending all day on the 20th waiting around on standby hoping for a seat that most likely won't turn up? Would JetBlue (maybe) let me change to an earlier flight to JFK from Burbank, given the current state of their air network, for free, therefore eliminating any potential problems?

Thank you!
Sean

Welcome to FlyerTalk!!

On the day of travel you can standby for the immediately prior flight for free, so that might help you out. If you call now and ask there is a small chance that they will let you change for free, but it is a pretty small chance.

If you do misconnect you'll almost certainly be on your own for accommodations at JFK that night and then will be on standby for the next available seat up to SYR. The good news is that they operate the route 4x daily and there seem to be seats still available for sale so you shouldn't have to wait around JFK all day.

Welcome to FT!

Good advice above - and I would like to add that IF you arrive late from BUR, chances are the SYR departure will be late, since flights at the end of the day tend to get the worst of the ripple effect during IROPS. Otherwise, if all goes well, your connection time should be fine - plus, you might even arrive early considering the eastbound tail wind. Track the flight over the next few days...

Agree with the above two posts. If you can fly earlier and you notice ANY weather in NY (or the entire east coast) around that time, I would pay the $40 fee and try to get on one of the earlier BUR-JFK flights. Around 3 weeks ago when there were storms in the NY area, a lot of people (including me) got screwed. It took 2+ days for me to get a flight from LGB to JFK because everything was full.

If the weather is looking good, I wouldn't worry about it. My general experience (as jetBlueNYFL mentioned) is that my eastbound transcons tend to get in around 30 mins ahead of schedule (or maybe I've just been lucky in the past few months).
