As of Sunday, Aug 10, AS and other carriers such as UA have suspended flights into/out of ANC, due to movement of volcanic ash debris up to FL400 into the flight paths used by most carriers up the Pacific Coast. See the Anchorage Daily News Story here (http://www.adn.com/front/story/489903.html). AS has posted an advisory at the top of its website waiving cancellation fees/penalties.

We were booked to leave ANC 11 Aug. and the first UA could get us out, even on other carriers, was on 13 Aug. Best of success in all FTers getting into and out of this beautiful State.

Update: most AS daytime flights operated today, Mon., 8/11 and AS has planned to add some capacity to get people in and out. AS night flights might be impacted into 8/12. Other carriers flying between Alaska and other US Pacific Coast cities have far fewer flights and are cancelling most thru 8/11. Assuming the ash cloud, now 350 miles wide, does not drift back west, most flights should have resumed by 8/12-13.
