I am seeking London lodging around November 7-14, 2008.

Prefer the east end/docklands area, and near public transport if at all possible.

Any suggestions?

As per my previous reply to your previous post.

Its World Travel Mart at Docklands during that Period, you will not find anything under $250 in the area.

Asking the same question many times will not get you a more favorable response or indeed get Hotels in the area to discount rates during their busiest 6 days of the year.

Get a map of the London Subway system and start looking 3 miles or more from Docklands but close to a subway/tube station that connects with DLR.

For discount UK hotels go to www.hotelscomparison.com

Agree with UncleDude except you may have to go a lot more than 3 miles; there's a travel planner website that's useful:http://www.transportdirect.info/web2/

Another source of discount hotels at the last minute is http://www.laterooms.com/en/r100_hotels-in-uk.aspx

Where in "Docklands" are you talking about? Canary Wharf? Near City Airport? Near ExCEL?

There are Ibis Hotels in Stratford and Greenwich http://www.ibishotel.com

YOu could get the Jubilee from Stratford to Canning Town and pop onto DLR or get the DLR from Greenwich.

This is the "Transport For London website. So will give you journey planner info etc about how to get about London.

This is not your preferred area but just stayed at the Sheraton Heathrow (not a hotel I'd necessarily HIGHLY recommend, but it was decent, and cheap, and served the purposes I needed it to) for 47.5 GBP. I see they have rooms for 49 GBP for your dates currently.

How about the Mad Hatter (http://www.fullershotels.com/frames/1044) just north of Southwark tube station on the Jubilee line, which goes east to Canary Wharf to hook up with the DLR?

They have Nov 7-10 at 90GBP/night (weekend rate, gotta scroll down for it) and then 130GBP for Nov 10-14

Walk across the Thames to Blackfriars for Circle and District lines (max 5 minutes from hotel front door)

I wouldn't stay there in the summer but the Mad Hatter is fine in the winter - and it's on top a Fullers pub so you can get your full English brekkie and pint.

If you are a film buff they filmed part of "Love Actually" right across the street (the part where the guy in love with Keira Knightly walks out of his flat and through the building to the South Bank).

cheers!

Hi! I'm making final plans for my first London trip. I saw good deals in the Hotel Section of the London Guide (http://www.uktravel.com/london.asp). Just a suggestion. ;)

You could look at www.smoothhound.co.uk or www.laterooms.com for useful hotel accommodation sites.

Try laterooms.com. It may be a bit early, but will give you some ideas of general availabilty and prices for the area.

Since this is the Budget Travel section, here's an Arthur Frommer report about Travelodge-UK (FWIW):

Not in Docklands, but in the "not so expensive hotel in London",
just stayed at the London Vicerage Hotel in Kensington, on a winter rate of 40GBP/night, including full English breakfast. Immaculate, clean, well-kept, friendly & helpful staff, and it's a 5-10 minute walk from either of two underground stops: the High Street Kensington or the Notting Hill Gate tube stations, as well as a 5-10 minute walk from Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park, etc. a 10-15 minute walk over to Portabello Road markets.

Only one word: www.lsevacations.co.uk : you stay at the London School of Economics, there is free breakfast included (no more than six items) and have a nice comfy room in the heart of London. Try the Carr-Saunders Hall: better than a 2 star hotel (if you dont mind sharing the restroom).
Remind me of my college days...
Ahhhh memories :-)
