Hi all,
B6 will expect to announce for SJU-SDQ by tomorrow. Here the flight schedules for SJU-SDQ:
SDQ-SJU 1555-1650
SJU-SDQ 1745-1845
It will be operate only 1 daily roundtrip by E90. I think B6 will have wait for another announcement more new routes from BDL/FLL/TPA-SJU sometimes in the future. Thanks all.

Wow, if this is true it makes sense that all of a sudden MCO is becoming a 190 pilot base and we need more crews down there in October.

Isn't BLD-SJU a little unorthadox for B6's game plan right now? They have plenty of other existing stations that would do just as well rather than open a new one just for a SJU route which isn't even a hub or focus city for B6.

I hope they add Austin-Seattle or at least Austin-Raleigh Durham with the 190. Some Saturday only flights would be cool to run from SJU. Raleigh Durham, Pittsburgh, Buffalo or West Palm Beach might be able to support those flights on the 190. San Juan-Santiago, St Maarten or Puerto Plata flights might work too although SXM and POP are more leisure oriented than Santiago. Keep em coming B6!
This new route is further proof that the 190 is becoming a force to be reckoned with. I know the plane had it's teething problems, but now it is becoming a great move for them. I would think that if this route starts to pick up, maybe upguage to the 320. Didn't Barger call the plane a "Pathfinder?"
Let AA continue to pull back in the Caribbean, B6 will continue to build this region and pull some great numbers financially.

Agreed, particularly since we keep hearing that there will be no new stations opening this year. Then again, with AA cutting so heavily from SJU B6 might just show up and make a hub (can we stop calling them "focus cities" since they are really hubs??) out of it.
I think that AA used to use SJU as a cargo routing point as much as a passenger processing facility. With more non-stops from the islands to the US mainland that may no longer be necessary, and the old AA planes are no longer able to drive a profit down there. B6 with newer, more efficient planes might be able to find those profits on the passenger side without worrying about their limited cargo capacity.
Just a thought...
FYI, I also received the press release about this about an hour ago:

In addition to the SJU-SDQ flight (Service starts 12/18), BOS-SDQ will operate 1x daily in Dec/Jan, and there will be additional frequencies on many other routes in the area:
the airline intends to bolster its frequent service between New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and the Dominican Republic by adding a fourth daily departure to Santiago, a third daily departure to Santo Domingo, and a second daily departure to Puerto Plata over the holiday season.
JetBlue will also offer Puerto Rico travelers increased service to Boston's Logan International Airport this winter. The airline will add a second daily flight between Boston and San Juan during the peak holiday season. And as previously announced, JetBlue will increase service to San Juan from both New York and Orlando beginning in September.

As I understand it, AA used the A300 heavily on Caribbean routing due to it's large cargo ability. But the A300 gets awful fuel efficiency (and purportedly has lots of maintenance issues). AA has announced an accelerated phase-out of the whole A300 fleet by the end of 2009.

In terms of new routes being announced, one thing I'm suprised about is that there as been no new route or station anounced that will be in conjunction with the new T5. I know they have been very hesitant about opening up new stations but I would have thought this would have been an exception to the rule. I don't know. Maybe they're just waiting for the grand opening festivities to make the announcement.
As far as SJU goes, I would have almost put it under MCO and AUS as cities B6 needs to expand. MCO is a great leasure destination as well as a great spot for a gateway to the Carribean and future expansion to South America.

Considering how much traffic they route in to SJU from IAD/JFK/BOS I'm not surprised that they want to build out a couple of onward flights from there. It seems to make sense to me. I don't know that MCO would be a better hub point for S. American travel, as I don't think they would have the O/D traffic to also contribute to the equation the way MIA or SJU would.
And neither is far enough south for B6 to get to deep S. America. SJU-GRU is still over 3K miles, which is pushing the A320s well past their limits.

Do we really need more leisure destinations when the US economy is collapsing?
A couple of months ago, I heard a rumor that B6 was going to expand their operation at SJU. I attributed it to "galley talk." However, as metioned in this thread, there seem to be more indications that this could be the case.
Additionally, there is a new terminal under construction that the authority has been having trouble leasing so they may be offering B6 an opportunity. Also, I'm sure that it was just a coincidence but Dave Barger was in SJU last week greeting passegers.

You have to consider that is one of the factors for B6 being so heavily involved with MCO. But, B6 does a lot of training and MX there as well(doesn't produce revenue, I know). Also, the station is primed for a lot of connecting traffic to the islands and South America. It may not have a lot of its own O&D but it can be a very logical point for traffic coming and going out of the east side of the Mississippi.
