Is AirTran acquiring 737-800 aircraft? The reason I ask is because the 737 safety card is titled 737-700/800.

The 800 is probably 25% bigger and has an additional emergency exit in the center. Dude, take my word for it the 800 is much bigger... I work around these planes all day.. I've worked the ATA 737-800's and I currently work the WN 737-700's.. Here's a photo comparison.. 700 http://www.airliners.net/photo/WestJet/Boeing-737-7CT/1376481&tbl=photo_info&photo_nr=4&sok=keyword_%28%5C%27%2B%5C%22737-700%5C%22%5C%27_IN_BOOLEAN_MODE%29%29_&sort=_order_by_photo_id_DESC_&prev_id=1376529&next_id=1376480 800 http://www.airliners.net/photo/Gol-Transportes-Aereos/Boeing-737-8BK/1376542&tbl=photo_info&photo_nr=4&sok=keyword_%28%5C%27%2B%5C%22737-800%5C%22%5C%27_IN_BOOLEAN_MODE%29%29_&sort=_order_by_photo_id_DESC_&prev_id=1376545&next_id=1376479 Notice the dual emergency exits over the wings on the 800.. The 800 is a much bigger plane,.. I think it holds another 50 passengers.. Airtran's order is for the 700 series which is to run through 2013-2014. num1bearsfan Aug 7, 08, 7:28 am Dude, take my word for it. It's the same plane, just a little longer. Airtran's order is for the 700 series which is to run through 2013-2014. LOL I can't believe you're still arguing with me.. The 800 is substantially longer.. An additional 50 passengers longer... Trust me I have an intimate knowledge of both of these planes SPECIFICALLY.. Out of curiosity, have you even seen an 800 and 700 in real life (from the outside)? rumorboy Aug 7, 08, 8:36 am The only real difference is the length and 2 more emergency exits. Pilots who fly the 700 are also certified to fly the 800(at least at airtran and any other company that operates both aka DL, CAL,ALK, Sun Country etc.). Flight Attendents at Airtran are also certified to fly BOTH the 700/800. Both airplanes have the same engines, 100% spare parts commonality. They look different as you say(longer, additional emergency exit row) but in airline land and the FAA(121 operations) they are the same. Oh ya I forgot one additional flight attendent required. I think they have said if they ever get them they would probably hold about 160 paxs.:) num1bearsfan Aug 7, 08, 12:28 pm The only real difference is the length and 2 more emergency exits. The 2 planes are of the same "generation" and share the same engines and parts... One however is substantially larger. Its also curious that the safety card include both 700 and 800s when the emergency exit config is different between the 2 planes.. rumorboy Aug 7, 08, 12:47 pm Its also curious that the safety card include both 700 and 800s when the emergency exit config is different between the 2 planes.. If you look at the safety card it has depictions of both the 700 and 800 on each side of the card. One side has the 700(one exit) and the 800(two exits).:) num1bearsfan Aug 7, 08, 1:02 pm If you look at the safety card it has depictions of both the 700 and 800 on each side of the card. One side has the 700(one exit) and the 800(two exits).:) Ahh,.. ok well that makes sense then.. TrueBlueFlyer Aug 19, 08, 8:57 pm I recently found out on my United Express flights that the safety cards are not an accurate representation of the plane's actual model. For example: my DTW-IAD flight aboard Embraer ERJ-145LR had an Embraer EMB-140 card in the seatback pocket. While the IAD-LGA flight aboard Embraer ERJ-145EP had an Embraer ERJ-140/145 card. I had assumed that the first plane was older than the second but after checking planespotters.net that wasn't the case. Piedmont Aug 22, 08, 2:12 pm I believe that when AirTran first ordered the 737, they had the option to buy some -800's. travatl Aug 23, 08, 6:29 pm All AirTran 737-700 orders can be optioned to -800s, with a one year advance option notice. However, the pilot contract calls for higher -800 pay rates, and the aircraft would require an additional flight attendant. Don't look for them anytime soon. |
