I didn't see anything posted, so will note here that Kiosks have been installed in the checkin lobby in front of the WN counter at McCarran. Used them Monday morning.

(WN and the rest of the airlines really need to turn the screws on McCarran to relocate, reconfigure and expand the checkpoints) Duckman Apr 23, 03, 2:43 pm Yes, those LAS security lines are outrageous. It took me a good hour to check-in & get through security last Sunday. What a joke! j379pa Apr 23, 03, 9:58 pm None at the security gates like PHX? It's _way_ out of my way to go over to the check-in area when I'm flying home. JP yosemite1225 Apr 23, 03, 11:23 pm LAS,McCarran has it, OAK has it, ONT does not have as my last trip. You insert your RR card in, the boarding pass is out. Pretty cool. OAK only checks ID at security line, you don't need present ID at the gate.LAS ONT checks ID at the gate. If your boarding pass has checkboard on it, you get bingo... you get second search on the gate. Nevada1K Apr 24, 03, 12:40 am When I went through security for the "C" gates Monday (4/21), they were matching ID to boarding pass or itinerary at the security entrance; they did not ask for ID at the Gate. Just past "C" gates security, there used to be a set of monitors for departing flights. Those monitors are now gone and I was told that they are reconfiguring the space to create at least one more metal detector/X-Ray line. While I get as frustrated as everyone else when the line backs way up, I remind myself that none of the airports in operation today were designed for post 9/11 security procedures. Some airports/terminals had a greater amount of space available and have been able to recongifure more quickly than others. Some terminals just don't have surplus space readily available. WN has a similar problem at Terminal 1 at LAX and, if I recall correctly, one solution floated was to take away a chunk of the retail stores just past the present security area to enable additional check points. I haven't heard anything recently regarding that plan. cardcounter Apr 24, 03, 7:59 am I fly out of LAS regularly. If you are leaving on a Sunday, yes, the lines are long. Everybody leaves on a Sunday so they can get back to work Monday. If you leave mid-week, or aren't catching the red eye, then you can go thru security in 15 minutes. Of course, if it is SuperBowl weekend, or Heavyweight Title Fight night, or the week of the National Rodeo Finals, or COMDEX, etc., etc. Then you need to figure out - when are all these people going to come and go - since they all seem to operate in a herd - and then plan your trip around the rush. |
