I will probably be spending a few days in NZ while on my way home from Fiji in early September. What can I typically expect of the weather at that time of the year? I'm thinking either just 3-4 nights in Auckland or a longer stay, taking in a few days in Christchurch...... Depending on the weather.

September is the end of winter. In AKL expect rain or showers at least a couple of the days, but mostly mild. In CHC it could be fine or dull and drizzly, and cooler.

September should be slightly warmer than July & August. A light sweater on top of a shirt should do. Winters in AKL in general are mild-cool even when I am there during the heart of coldest period. Nothing compared to the reality of harsh winter I deal with in Toronto.

This seems to be a colder than normal winter in the south, and wetter than normal in the north.
Christchurch had its 5th snowfall of the winter this week as an indication (0-2 a year is normal).
