I just took a 3 week vacation to Scotland, and rather than messing with embedding all the photos, I thought I'd just link to my website trip report, if that's alright.

I cannot wait to read your report, but I have a deadline at work so I'll read it tonight. I've read the earlier ones and am amazed at the level of detail. I also read the incredibly romantic story about the reunion of your parents. It gives me hope that maybe I'll reconnect with my first love.

Thanks for sharing!

What a great trip report, Green Dragon! I can't remember reading though - did your friend manage to get the accidentally deleted photos retrieved?

I just quickly looked through the photos. Enjoyed them. I'll have to set some time aside to read the full report. Thanks for sharing!

Flyforfun, I wish you luck in your romantic quest. It's never too late!! :)

Yes, C did manage to get 90% of her photos recovered. Some were just too damaged, but she got most of them, and she is quite relieved.

I like the detailed reports as I have a terrible memory myself. Writing it all down means I get to remind myself and relive it, especially at art shows when I'm selling the photos :D

Great to hear that you were so impressed by our wonderful scenery and that some of the accommodation and food was good! I used to spend every Easter holiday at Kinross House in Grantown... happy memories. Also spent some of honeymonn at the Three Chimneys which is lovely!

Nice report & really lovely pictures.

Good to see that you visited our best Castle at Stirling but then again I may be a little biased. ;)

Don't worry about not taking the steps up the monument, I've been here all my life & never been up the monument, now I only get as far as the pub at the bottom of the hill. :)

pmcg, I figured since I had already (almost) climbed Arthur's Seat, the Wallace monument wasn't required. I really did like Stirling better than Edinburgh castle, though it may be the fact that it was much less crowded.

Outstanding trip report, Green Dragon! No wonder it took you 2 years to plan this. I was sorry to hear US Airways lost your luggage twice. Since this is FT, I have to comment on your flights. Any reason US Airways gave you 4 middle seats going? Any offer of compensation for your lost luggage? What a nightmare. Clearly luggage does not seem to be their strong suit. As I'm sure you now know, GLA = Glasgow Airport (Paisley), PIK = Prestwick.

Sometimes I think when you buy a postcard in Scotland, the photographer must have waited for the one sunny day a year to take that photo! :) "I don't think we got one all sunny day the entire trip". You are right, "It IS Scotland".

I note you are big on Celtic Crosses. Great photo of the Roslyn Stained Glass window. Was it sunny that day? (Do they now allow photography inside the Chapel? ;) ) I loved your commentary, and photos - your misty days, sheep (Skye Traffic Jam), and Hamish, the highland cow.

Great report, Green Dragon.

I see in one of your earlier reports you visited Leeds, York and Tadcaster. I hope you managed to read Mrs Poppleton's Trip Report (voted "Best Trip Report in Flyertalk History" by Conde Nast Traveler in its August 2008 issue) from June before you visited.

Here's the link:

Thanks, both of you! We did have some sunny moments even on most of the rainy days. I actually find that cloudy but bright days are the best for stained glass photos - less glare. No, they don't allow photos, but I didn't use a flash :D

I chose the four middle seats as my dad and husband both wanted aisle seats, and this kept us all together. That way, when we were cramped, just one of us finding another spot would relieve everyone. And no, no compensation offered. I could have gotten reimbursement for toiletries purchased, but I had brought most of the important stuff in carryon, so didn't need to spend tons of cash on new stuff.

I will say I just booked a trip to SFO, and specifically avoided US Airways, even when it was less expensive. There are only two airlines that use my local airport (GNV), Delta and US. I chose Delta, no contest. I only have one connection in ATL, but I am still considering carryon only (it's a weekend trip to learn Irish Gaelic with my friend K, who went to Scotland with me).

pat, I hadn't read it before, but will now! Thanks :)

Our next big trip will likely be driving up the eastern seaboard to Maine in September 2009, and then western Ireland with K and C in 2010 - perhaps June?

Loved the report, and the pictures. Hubs and I were in Scotland for a few days in May, and covered a small part of what you did, although I loved Culloden more than you did. I can never get enough Scotland!

Great report from the land of Jenbel's sheep. ^

Thanks szg - Jenbel and her sheep get around a lot, don't they! :)

Just as a side note, the Delta trip to San Francisco went fine, no delays or late flights, and no lost luggage (of course, I carried on or gate checked everything, so very little risk of such loss). The bad part is I was sick on the way home - caught a cold, and still have it, 11 days later. Bleh.
