Anyone get a courtesy upgrade to gold status? Just joined Fairmont and will be staying at Kea Lani in Maui for my honeymoon. Would like to maximize the benefits.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Super forum - I'm a newbie but have learned a whole lot. Thanks everyone.

I am a regular member and still get treated very well...room upgrade mostly. If you find a comp go for it but also be sure to tell them it's your honeymoon!

This may or may not apply to you, but AMEX Platinum Card holders here in Canada get Fairmont PC Gold as one of the benefits.

I asked for a courtesy Gold upgrade earlier this year, and was told they wouldn't. My request was based on my stay trending.
Didn't really matter, since I actually qualified two months later. Once you do qualify, you need to call them to get them to turn on your status immediately. Otherwise it could take up to six weeks (so I'm told).

If you have platinum status in another program they will. We did this and they comped us to gold.

I think the Amex Platinum card has $25 annual fee along with it? The website says there's a "code" for cardholders to give Fairmont to upgrade their status.
Also if you're platinum in another ff pgm do they actually check or just take your word for it?
Thanks.

Annual fee for The Platinum Card (http://www10.americanexpress.com/sif/cda/page/0,1641,14145,00.asp) --> $399
As for the code, I don't remember it off-hand, but as with all things Canadian, this was discussed on the AC forum about a year ago. Try a search there, but I wouldn't bother trying the code if you aren't a Platinum Card holder. I'm sure they check.
Oh, and rather belatedly, welcome to FT neil! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

At the time we asked for a comp we had to fax our latest statement proving that we were platinum in another program to them.

Just wanted to confirm the other post - yes, they check. I had Gold in SPG and HH and had to fax several items to Fairmont and was then rejected. I ended up eventually getting comped but my experience probably will be of little to help you. (After being denied the original comp request, I applied for basic membership. I waited several weeks and never received anything in the mail. I emailed them and a rep replied that she re-sent it herself. After still nothing arrived, I emailed back to same rep saying that I was about to throw in the towel. She replied back with apologies and a comp to Gold and overnighted the membership pack to me complete with the nifty upgrade certs. Incredibly impressive to me).
But whatever your luck with this is, contact the GM before your stay letting him/her know that is your honeymoon as well as letting the front desk know when you actually check in.
Best of luck, congratulations and welcome to FT!
