As it was going to be in the mid-90's out in the suburbs today, seemed like an excellent reason to take BART into the much cooler San Francisco for the afternoon to the Festival of Sail (http://www.festivalofsail.org/). I walked from the Embarcadero BART station all the way down through Fort Mason, just above the Safeway store near the Marina Green, and was able to get photos of five different tall ships that came in for this event, as well as the Dawn Princess as it left at 4:30 on the way to Alaska.
Should note this was the first time using my BART EZ Rider ticket, which is similar to the Oyster Card in London with a chip inside to track usage, and automatic recharge via credit card. This program is still in its pilot phase. They originally charged my card $45, and gave me $48 in credit for use. The trip from Orinda BART in was $3.85 one way.
Had bright blue skies and not a sign of fog, and I came home nice and sunburned. As is typical when I venture onto BART, the Pittsburg/Bay Point train pulled away as I was coming down the escalator to head home, so 20 min wait for the next train.
