JetBlue TrueBlue - Since JB doesn't fly to Hawaii, I have a $485 credit I can't use. Ideas?

I have a credit with JetBlue from a canceled flight last year (long story.) Could I transfer this to someone else? What would you do in my shoes? (caution, left shoes squeaks a bit) No, flying somewhere besides Hawaii doesn't count. I'd willing to trade for a similar credit from an airline that DOES do Hawaii though.
Thanks all.

Lets see if I were in your shoes..
If I didn't live in Hawaii, I would stop being so foolish to limit myself to just Hawaii and pick another destination that Jetblue serves. If I did live in Hawaii, I'd make a reservation for a flight anywhere in the Jetblue system that uses up all or most of my $485 and then cancel it thus giving myself a credit for $385 (or so) that would be good for atleast another year and hope I traveled to the mainland at some point. If I could find a refundable fare, I'd buy that one so that I could either a. Avoid the $100 cancelation fee or b. See if I could get a refund (you may not be able to because the credit comes from a non-refundable ticket).
Example if you purchased a one way refundable ticket from JFK-MCO with a connection at IAD on January 31, 2009 (the last day that Jetblue is ticketing for) it would cost you w/taxes $470 Which would leave you with a $15 credit. Then on January 30, 2009 cancel the ticket and get a $470 credit that is good till January 30, 2010. A loss of $15 but better than loosing all of it. I'd also wait till October 2nd the day before the credit expired to see if they extend the schedule, so that I might get a $470 credit that would be good till something like May 1, 2010.

Yeah I thought about buying another ticket too, but flipping through JB's refund policy it says that all tickets are refunded in the manner paid, so all that does is buy me more time. Can't even use it for hotels or rental cars either. Le Sigh. I live in California and don't travel much, so I guess I'll book a refundable flight somewhere and cancel it so I have another year. Bummer.

Try to buy a refundable ticket then that will not cost you the 100 fee. I thought there was a place on FT in which you can trade credits on airlines.

This is what I'm hoping, to trade to (crosses fingers) a Continental credit. I have a $500 credit with Continental so I can GET to Hawaii, but it's a long swim back.
I don't think Hawaii is foolish, neither my wife or I have ever been, and due to passport problems we've gotta stay in the US. Hawaii is the closest tropical place to go from here.

I didn't say it was foolish to go to Hawaii, I was just saying that it was foolish to loose your credit just because Jetblue doesn't fly there.

Welcome to FT! I realize Hawaii is only about 5 hours from CA, but would you consider Puerto Rico (~9+ hours airborne)? With 3 destinations served nonstop from JFK (BQN, PSE, SJU) you have convenient connections and flight times. Plus, it's a very tropical vacation in a U.S. territory (no passport I believe).

Also, is there just one $485 credit OR two (both you and your wife)?
I just randomly priced LGB-SJU on 10/14-10/22 = $455.30 r/t all in. Not too bad at all. Plus, you might even be able to use the $20 or $30 off r/t coupon on top of that if it meets the T&C.

Who says you get a credit good till 01/30/2010? Perhaps the old credit is reinstated and expires the moment it is.

Nope, I've done this before, you get a new credit and it expires a year from the date you cancel your new ticket.

If you don't mind me asking, why do you have the credit in the first place, seeing as how you don't want to go anywhere but Hawaii?
Welcome to FlyerTalk!!
The forum in which such trading occurs is called Coupon Connection and is only available if you have a number of posts and have been a member for a number of days. I believe that it is 90/90 but I'm not positive as I passed both marks quite a while ago.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to fly to Hawaii and getting value for your voucher, but there is a different between not wanting to go somewhere the airline flies and not being able to use the voucher.
And Puerto Rico is a passport-free destination for US residents, but that's a pretty long schlep from the left coast.
Good luck.

sbm12 does have a great suggestion. Just keep in mind that it is good for trading only. Flyertalk does not permit buying and selling.
