My wife just got me an iPhone 3g and I'm undecided. I'm typing on it right now and it is hard to type with. I like all the other stuff on it but I think I will still need the bb. So how many of you carry both?

You'll find that the iPhone does get easier to type on as you practice, the main issue is the lack of haptic feedback. If you keep your finger on the letters for slightly longer than you would normally when selecting them it can help. I have a 2G iPhone and haven't upgraded to the 3G as I don't use that much data (odd cricket score in the UK, use work blackberry abroad) and mainly have it due to the nice screen & long battery life: just got a HTC Diamond which burns out after a day. Having the iPhone in one side pocket and the blackberry in the other also keeps things balanced :) ScottC Jul 23, 08, 8:55 am I do. Email on the Blackberry is much, much better than on the iPhone. I find the iPhone email client to be far too basic for business use. iwebslinger Jul 23, 08, 5:10 pm I do. Email on the Blackberry is much, much better than on the iPhone. I find the iPhone email client to be far too basic for business use. The email on the iphone using me.com is annoying. The incoming mail is pretty much like the bb but when I send email out it takes a long time. Also, things like finding contacts take longer. I'm thinking of returning iphone and waiting for the bold. t-rev Jul 23, 08, 6:47 pm I had the iPhone for about a week before I sold it on Craigslist today. I will stick to my BB Curve and will probably update to the Bold when it comes out. The iPhone was too hard to type on. gj83 Jul 23, 08, 7:20 pm I have neither and I think I might wait for the Thunder. pbjag Jul 24, 08, 5:21 pm You know, I waited to port my number to my new IPhone 3G because typing difficulty was the reason I did not buy an IPhone last year. As a female with fingernails (not long ones, but long enough to make it hard to tap the screen with the pads of my fingers) and a longtime BBerry user, I figured it would be a no go and that I'd need to get another Curve or wait for the Bold. Have been surprised to find it much easier to type on the Iphone this time around. The key -- I am typing with my knuckles. LOTS easier and faster to type than the blackberry ever was. And the attachments are so much easier to read on the Iphone too. I haven't looked back for one single second. Rambuster Jul 24, 08, 5:31 pm The iPhone 3G is great except for typing ... oh and the battery life get me through half the day ... sefrischling Jul 24, 08, 10:12 pm Blackberry 8700 on TMobile. Reliable email, unlimited e-mail internationally, rugged. iPhone (original) because my wife gave it to me when she got a 3G. I hate typing on my iPhone, but it has AIM. So I carry it for AIM and retired my Razr (in all honesty, I preferred my ATT Razr to the ATT iPhone). I guess the Razr is now for travel internationally, to be used when I swap local SIM to not get hit with ATT roaming fees (TMobile roaming fees aren't so bad, especially with unlimited international email....which is why I love my TMobile Blackberry!) Emma65 Jul 24, 08, 10:22 pm I'm a BB user and love it. I played with an iphone yesterday but here in Canada the plan is silly. The BB plan, with unlimited email domestic (no web plan for me) is much better. I'm going to settle for getting an ipod touch instead as a back up for when I need web. It does wifi and there are tons of wifi spots here. alina555 Jul 24, 08, 11:23 pm I have a BB Curve for work emails and original iPhone for personal emails. I love both!^ Landing Gear Jul 26, 08, 3:11 pm What are the Bold and Thunder referenced in two previous messages? ScottC Jul 26, 08, 3:19 pm What are the Bold and Thunder referenced in two previous messages? Bold is the next generation Blackberry with 3G, Wi-Fi, 3MP camera, GPS and a higher resolution display. Thunder is an unannounced touch screen Blackberry. Not much is known about it other than that it exists and that it MIGHT be out on Verizon first. Verizon is actually going to launch something useful? :) Thrillington Jul 26, 08, 10:10 pm I carry a BB 8830 and a 3G iPhone. Absolutely love the iPhone and typing on it is getting much, much better once I started trusting the software to correct my typing. Only drawback for me is the battery life. I have extended what I'm getting out of it to almost a full day by turning off location services and only turning wi-fi when I need it. I will probably carry both for the next three months at least and then move 100% to the iPhone. njmcgreg Jul 27, 08, 11:51 am After having the original iPhone for a while now, I find that I'm able to type just as fast as on the Curve. I'll only dig out the Curve now if I'm going someplace that I'd prefer to have a slightly more rugged phone, or where I only need email (slightly better than iPhone) and don't need the media features. zoombee Jul 28, 08, 3:02 am I'm really stuck on if I want a bb or an iphone. Currently have neither but getting both may be the right solution! Reading the opinions in this thread has been helpful. Apart from the iphone not being as good for email as a bb, I'm really loathe to move to a phone without a half decent camera. So maybe the answer is an iphone till the bold comes... decisions decisions! Is is supposed to be an iphone in disguise? Let me be clear; I have no interest in storing music on an cellular device. LessO2 Aug 4, 08, 1:31 pm From everything I read, "Thunder" might be passe in terms of its name. Here (http://crackberry.com/exclusive-first-live-pics-blackberry-thunder) are some pics of the 9500/Thunder. Pure speculation, but October 8th has been mentioned (http://www.blackberrycool.com/2008/07/blackberry-thunder-due-october-8th-with-rhapsody/) as a possible release date. Word is that Verizon (Vodafone in Europe) will have exclusivity on this product, provided they maintain sales quotas. The 9500 is supposed to have slightly better resolution than the iPhone (I think it's 380X240 versus 360X240, something very narrowly different), and will have worldwide capability (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/07/15/blackberry_thunder_spied/). Boraxo Aug 4, 08, 7:01 pm BB for work email and phone, iPod Touch for music/calendar/contacts/photos and personal email (via wifi), & Moto Razr personal cell. My pockets are full. I would agree that typing is easier on BB. Neither one is acceptable as casual phone - too bulky. philfna Aug 5, 08, 8:19 am I've got an 8830 from Sprint and a iPhone 3G ... prefer the Blackberry I can't type on the iPhone with two fingers...it ends up being a bloody mess. Dubai Stu Aug 5, 08, 6:56 pm With Nokia E & N Series phones and with Windows Mobile, you can set your phone to transmit an ad hoc wifi signal that you can connect your Touch to and share the 3g from one plan. Just a thought. UScolorado1k Aug 6, 08, 6:47 am I admit, that I carry both. However unlike many of the others who posted here, I use my BB for personal use and my iPhone for work! :) |
