Southwest Rapid Rewards - On-line rebooking with travel credit question
If I book an itinerary for 2 people say, myself and boyfriend, charge it to my CC, and don't go on that trip, can I rebook the total value on another ticket for one person only that maybe is more expensive.
In other words does the credit get divided - half per person and future reservations must be made in both of those names?
Example:
HOU to MSY for 2 people =$263.00 for both on one confirmation #.
Cancel trip.
Apply credit for 1 person HOU to LAS which costs $270
Would this work or would I just be able to apply 131.50 to the second more expensive trip for 1 person?
I recently cancelled a trip for myself and a friend (purchased as Friend Flies Free) and used all the proceeds to a ticket for myself. I suppose the FFF might have made a difference, but I'd guess not, and you should be okay. It's just a credit under a conf number.

Good news, CMW! You may use those unused funds virtually any way you choose, for any priced ticket(s) in any name(s). If the funds are applied toward a lesser priced ticket, you may continue, within a certain time frame, to use any remaining funds for subsequent tickets. It's almost as if those funds are brand new again.

Please note: Nonrefundable funds applied toward payment of a new reservation will remain nonrefundable.
If you apply available Ticketless Travel Funds toward the purchase of a new reservation, your new reservation record will reflect the expiration date of the oldest Ticketless Travel Funds used to pay for this reservation. Therefore, the expiration date of your new reservation and all Ticketless Travel Funds associated with your new reservation may be less than 12 months. The Ticketless Travel Funds expiration date will be printed on your new Ticketless Travel Itinerary and Receipt.</font>
It's really convenient that Southwest now allows us to track and spend our unused available funds online.
It doesn't get any easier than that! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks for the information. There is very little downside to locking in a good price as long as you know you'll be flying WN in the near future.

They _may_ hit you with a $40 rebooking fee if you cancel. They've been very kind to me recently, and have not charged for several work related changes. Nonetheless, this is considerably less than the $100 that virtually every other airline will charge you for rebooking.
That said, when I've rebooked using credit on-line, they ask for the confirmation number of your previous reservation. You have an opportunity to enter several reservation credit numbers, should you have a little from one and a bit from another. So, you could conceivably combine several cancelled trips. Again, they may place a charge on cancellations.
That said, I can't give this company enough praise for how they handle issues like this. I'll use 'em whenever I can! Too bad they don't go to Europe...

j379pa, I've never heard of Southwest charging a rebooking fee if you cancel. I'm only aware that any changes to an existing reservation would be priced at the current available fare at the time of the change or rebooking. For example, additional monies could be collected if the fare class is no longer available, the advance purchase requirement is not met or simply if the fare has increased. I'm sure there are other examples. The same would hold true when cancelling an existing reservation and then rebooking it. The current fare rules at the time of rebooking would prevail.
I'm never too old learn something new. Providing some additional details, rules or examples of Southwest's rebooking fee would be appreciated. Thank you and happy travels.
I, too wish they flew to Europe. Also HNL and a few other destinations, as well! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Well, it's been a while, and likely before the on-line rebooking became available, but yes, there were several times they did charge to cancel & rebook, in addition to the difference in ticket price.
