Hertz - Getting a car at LAX is getting ridiculous

Why is it so expensive to rent a car at LAX now? I'm trying to get a weekly rental at LAX from 7/29-8/5 and the rate I'm getting is almost more than double of what I got from last year during the same period. What gives??

I get using the Travel Partners discount code (706900) is $212 all in for a mid size. A little more for std/full size. The Redondo Beach HLE is about 7-8 miles from LAX. LAX is almost double. It is about a $20-25 cab ride to Redondo.

I have rented cars at this location and they are decent. The above would work if you are arriving during the daytime hours. (they close at 6PM on weekdays).

The rate for pickup at Redondo Beach HLE is the same whether you return at Redondo or at LAX.

For LAX, using a Southwest airlines discount code, it is discounted 37% but the base rate is still $326 for midsize and total is $410. :mad:

That $10 facilities charge doesn't help.

Or you can go to Hertz HLE at at airport Hilton, no airport taxes and lower local rates, and free hotel shuttle to the airport

It will cost the OP over $400 renting at the Hilton HLE for the week. A even cheaper option than the Redondo Beach HLE is renting at the Venice HLE @ 2519 Lincoln Blvd, Venice. It is closer than Redondo Beach (5 miles) and is $181 all in for midsize. (about $30 cheaper than Redondo HLE and closer). May be even faster to get to from LAX.

I second the opinion of the OP that LAX got insane.

Also their billing is getting out of hand and twice already the amount for a weekend rental was over 40$ more than on my reservation. I disputed both charges with VISA after the Rep couldnt figure it out.

if you are a costco member, they have codes that help ( a percentage off + free upgrade)
